1 Agriculture Ministry & Farmers Welfare organizes One Day National Workshop on “Per Drop More Crop” in New Delhi

A National Workshop on Per Drop More Crop was organized by Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare was organized in New Delhi today to discuss with the stakeholders the various approaches which can be adopted for increasing penetration of micro irrigation in the country. Participants from various Ministries and Departments of Central Government, States and UT’s, Irrigation Industries, Startups working in water management sector, and Farmers Producer Organisations were present in the event.

 Inaugurating the workshop, Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Manoj Ahuja emphasized on adoption of technologies in the implementation of the programmes and focused approach to enhancing micro-irrigation coverage. He said, it can increase the overall efficiency and water productivity of agriculture for ensuring the food and nutrition security of the country and the incomes of the farmers, particularly in rainfed areas.

3 Dubai Successfully Trials Medication Delivery via Drones, Paving the Way for Advanced Technologies in Healthcare

Dubai, May 31, 2023 - Dubai has achieved a significant milestone in healthcare innovation with the successful trial of medication delivery via drones. The trial, conducted at Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) in partnership with Fakeeh University Hospital, marks Dubai's commitment to becoming a global leader in adopting advanced technologies in vital sectors.

In collaboration with Dubai Silicon Oasis, the Dubai Future Foundation, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, and Barq Air, an Emirati smart mobility company, Dubai completed the groundbreaking trial within a 10-kilometre radius. The drones, operated by Fakeeh University Hospital, transported medication from the hospital to a patient's home in Cedre Villas, showcasing the city's potential in utilizing drone technology for medical delivery.

4 India's Launch of NavIC Navigation Satellite Marks a Milestone in Indigenous Space Technology

India's space sector achieved a significant milestone as the country successfully launched its indigenous navigation satellite, NVS-01, as part of the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) program. The GSLV, on its 15th flight, carried the satellite, which took off from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on Monday. This launch signifies a major achievement for India, positioning it alongside other global navigation systems such as GPS, Glonaz, and Galileo.

5 World No Tobacco Day: WHO representative to India compliments India for reducing tobacco

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, WHO representative to India Dr Roderico H Ofrin spoke exclusively to Akashwani. He shared insights on how youth are easily targeted as replacement customers by the tobacco industry and complimented India for its firm decisions in reducing tobacco use and banning E-cigarettes.

6 North Korea’s attempt to launch its first military spy satellite ends in failure

North Korea’s attempt to launch its first military spy satellite ended in failure after the rocket's second stage malfunctioned yesterday. North Korea said that an accident occurred as it planned to send up its first space satellite, causing it to crash into the sea. According to North Korean state media, the new satellite transport rocket Chollima-1 launch failed as it lost propulsion due to an abnormal startup of the engine on the second stage after the first stage was separated while flying normally. Authorities will analyze the cause of the accident and launch another rocket soon.

7 New Liberation War Gallery Inaugurated at the Indian Cultural Centre in Dhaka

A new 1971 Liberation War Gallery was inaugurated at the Indian Cultural Centre of the High Commission of India in Dhaka on Tuesday. Home Minister of Bangladesh Asaduzzaman Khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion. High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Pranay Verma joined the Home Minister in the inauguration of  the Liberation War Gallery which contains some rare photographs of the 1971 Liberation War which culminated in the liberation of then East Pakistan and its emergence as the newest nation of the South Asian region.

8 Finale Bahnen-Tournee 2023 cycling: India’s Esow Alben wins bronze medal in keirin

Indian cyclist Esow Alben won the bronze medal in the elite men's keirin event at a UCI Class 1 Event-Finale Bahnen-Tournee 2023 cycling competition in Dudenhofen, Germany. The 22-year-old also listed himself in being the first cyclist from India to participate in the UCI Champions League. Alben was also the first Indian who won a medal in a cycling world championship.
 
He clinched a silver medal in the year 2018 after finishing behind world championships medallist Germany's Marc Jurczyk and France's Sebastien Vigier.

9 Khelo India University Games: Savitribai Phule Pune University clinches first Gold medal with win over Osmania University in women’s tennis event

In Khelo India University games, Savitribai Phule Pune University conquered their final quest with a 2-0 victory over defending champions Osmania University to clinch their first Gold medal in the women’s tennis event in Ekana International Tennis Stadium Lucknow.

Meanwhile, women tennis players of Jain University outdid the University of Madras 2-0 to clinch the bronze medal.

Defending champions Anna University had to sweat it out against Bharthiar University as it went to a decider double where ultimately they pulled off a win in the super tie-break.

10 ISRO successfully launches its next-generation navigational satellite - NVS-1 from Sriharikota

ISRO's GSLV f 12 rocket with NVS - 01 satellite was successfully launched at 10.42 from Sriharikota today. The rocket lifted off from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre and injected NVS -01 satellite in its geosynchronous orbit. 

The satellite weighing 2232 kilograms is the first of the second-generation satellites envisaged for the Navigation with Indian Constellation series.
