The Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched a new campaign ‘one student, one tree’ today – July 20. Pokhriyal planted trees along with school students in Bengaluru. Under the new scheme, each student in all the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across the country will have to plant one tree in their campus.

3 PM flags off two schemes to revive wetlands, mangroves

In a move to revive wetlands and mangroves across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched two schemes named Amrit Dharohar and MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Incomes).

India currently has 75 Ramsar sites that are wetlands of international importance and designated under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.

5 President Droupadi Murmu conferred Suriname’s highest civilian award

6 Bharat Petroleum starts pilot to test ED7 blend fuel

State-run Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) on Monday initiated a pilot programme in collaboration with Ashok Leyland and Hero Mototcorp to test the effectiveness of the ED7 fuel blend, which combines diesel with 7% ethanol. The aim of this programme is to revolutionize India’s biofuel economy and establish a more stable energy mix.

7 RBI imposes monetary penalty on Sawantwadi urban Cooperative Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday imposed a monetary penalty of ₹3 lakh on Sawantwadi Urban Co-operative Bank for contravention of directions contained in the Supervisory Action Framework (SAF). The co-operative bank is based in a taluka called Sawantwadi in Maharashtra.

In a notification, RBI said, this action is based on deficiencies in regulatory compliance and is not intended to pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the bank with its customers.

Indian grapplers have signed off with three medals in the UWW Ranking Series event in Bishkek on Saturday, with Manisha grabbing Gold, Reetika finishing second-best and Sarita Mor getting her hand so on the Bronze Improvising with the small sized-draws, Manisha bagged Gold in the 65 kg weight category, while India's tally in the series is four medals including 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze.

Manisha won four matches in the four rounds she completed which helped her win the gold medal. In the tournament, the wrestler with the most number of victories will be ranked first. Earlier, Manjeet won a bronze in the men's Greco Roman 55kg category on Thursday, opening India's medal account in the series.

10 ISSF Junior World Cup: Gautami Bhanot, Abhinav Shaw win India's second gold medal

Indian shooters Abhinav Shaw and Gautami Bhanot have given India their second gold at the ISSF World Cup Junior after winning the final of 10 meter Air Rifle Mixed Team event in Suhl, Germany.

Indian team of Shaw and Bhanot registered a 17-7 win over the French pairing of Oceanne Mueller and Romain Aufrere in the gold medal match yesterday. The Indian pair had qualified second to the French pair but turned the tables on them in the final. India now has two gold medals, one silver and one bronze from the World Cup after two days of competition.
