Minister of State for Tourism Ajay Bhatt said today that the programme “Travel for LiFE” is a testament to our commitment to promoting sustainable tourism. He said this during the Global Launch of the sectoral programme under Mission LiFE, targeted towards the Tourism sector, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, today.

Mr. Bhatt said, this innovative initiative promotes sustainability and showcases the commitment to reducing environmental footprints. He remarked that India’s ancient philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam finds its true expression in Tourism. It also reminds the country's shared heritage and strong commitment to conserving the environment, added the Minister.

2 India's Roshibina Devi Naorem clinches Silver medal in Women's 60 kg category in Wushu

Asian Games 2023 have entered its Day 5 at Hangzhou, China. India has a overall of 23 medals in its kitty with 5 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze. We currently stand at the seventh position on the ranking board. In a major disappointment, Naorem Roshibina Devi lost in the 60 kg category final in women's Wushu event today. She fought hard till the last moment against China’s Wu Xiaowei. Devi brings home a silver medal which is a first for the country in Wushu. She has definitely improved her form from the last Asian Games, where he bagged the bronze medal. There is more to come from the fiery Manipuri in the future.

6 Stem cell therapy shows promise for reducing Alzheimer's symptoms

Scientists have transplanted stem cells into mice and found reduction of brain abnormalities typical of Alzheimer's disease.

The team, led by researchers at the Stanford University in the US, transplanted blood stem and progenitor cells into mice, effectively leading to the replacement of a type of neural cell, called microglia, that's defective in mice with the disease.

"This cell therapy approach is unique in the field because most researchers are working to find pills or injectables to treat Alzheimer’s disease,” said Marius Wernig, a professor of pathology at Stanford.

7 Telangana villages Pembarthi, Chandlapur recognised by Centre as ‘best tourism villages’

Giving a boost to rural tourism and celebrating cultural heritage, the Centre has recognised two villages from Telangana under the ‘Best Tourism Village’ category on Monday. Pembarthi in Jangaon District and Chandlapur in Siddipet District have been selected for this honour, set to be awarded on the occasion of World Tourism Day on September 27.

Pembarthi has a storied history of handicrafts dating back to the Kakatiya dynasty. Chandlapur in Siddipet district is celebrated for its intricate and exquisite handloom production, particularly its ‘Gollabhama’ sarees.

9 State govt decided to provide free of cost treatment to patients in state’s premier medical institution IGIMS Patna

In a major decision to boost health services for citizens of Bihar, the state government has decided to provide free of cost treatment to the patients in state’s premier medical institution Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna.

This decision was taken in the meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Briefing the media in Patna, Additional Chief Secretary of Cabinet Coordination Department S. Siddharth said this will benefit poor patients, who can now avail free services for medicines, surgery, medical tests and other pathological tests.

10 PhonePe, a digital payment platform in India, has launched its own app store

PhonePe, a digital payment platform in India, has launched its own app store called the Indus Appstore Developer Platform to challenge Google's Play Store monopoly. The app store will offer a localised experience in 12 languages and give developers an alternative to Google's platform fees and commission charges. The Indus Appstore will not charge developers any platform fee or commission for in-app payments, and app listings will be free for the first year. PhonePe's move provides app developers with a credible alternative and offers better app discovery and consumer engagement.
