Billionaire Elon Musk's xAI on Wednesday announced the formation of the artificial intelligence (AI) start-up with the launch of its website, unveiling a team made up of engineers who have worked at companies from Alphabet-owned Google to Microsoft and OpenAI.

The start-up will be led by Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of Twitter, who has said on several occasions that the development of AI should be paused and that the sector needs regulation.

"Announcing formation of @xAI to understand reality," Musk said in a tweet on Wednesday.

2 7th Deputy NSA Meeting of Colombo Security Conclave held in Maldives

The 7th Deputy NSA level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) was hosted by the Maldives on 12 July 2023. Member States India, Maldives, Mauritius and Sri Lanka met in the virtual format. Bangladesh and Seychelles participated as Observers, a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs said.

4 Ganemat Sekhon sets national record at ISSF World Cup Shotgun Lonato 2023

Indian shooter Ganemat Sekhon scored 120 in the women’s skeet qualifying round of the ISSF World Cup Shotgun Lonato 2023 to claim a new national record on Wednesday.

Even though she claimed a national record, Ganemat failed to win a medal along with all six Indian skeet shooters at the Trap Concaverde Shooting Range in Italy.

Ganemat, who won a silver medal in the women’s individual skeet events at the ISSF World Cup in Almaty in May, shot a perfect round of 25 but missed out on a place in the six-woman final as she finished in seventh position.

5 ITC’s board reappoints Sanjiv Puri as CMD

The Board of Directors of ITC has recommended reappointment of Sanjiv Puri as the Chairman and Managing Director of the company for a period of five years effective July 22, 2024. His present term will end on July 21, 2024.

7 Lakshya Sen wins Canada Open

8 Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurates HAL regional office in Kuala Lumpur

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) regional office in Kuala Lumpur today. The Defence Ministry said this regional office will boost the defence industrial collaboration between India and Malaysia and serve as a hub for the HAL’s engagement with the South-East Asian region.

9 GST Council: 28% tax on online gaming, casinos and horse-racing

THE GOODS and Services Tax (GST) Council, in its 50th meeting on Tuesday, decided to levy a uniform 28 per cent tax on full face value for online gaming, casinos and horse-racing, while reducing the rate for uncooked/ unfried snack pellets, cancer medicine and imitation zari thread.

The meeting also clarified the rate for food and beverages sold inside multiplexes and the definition of all utility vehicles to bring parity for cess levy.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the intent was not to end any industry linked to online gaming, casinos and horse-racing, but there was discussion on the moral question of whether these should be taxed at the same rate as essential items.

10 Sikkim tops northeast, UP among bigger states in grievance redressal

Sikkim has topped the northeastern states in addressing public complaints, followed by Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the Centre said on Tuesday.

The ranking was made in the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) monthly report, released by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) under the Personnel Ministry, for states for June 2023.
