1 Union Minister Anurag Thakur inaugurates Synthetic Athletic Tracks

This is the very first track of the country built at an altitude of 8000 feet. The SAI centre in Shilaroo also houses the high altitude Hockey Synthetic Track. 

“This state-of-the-art track is a significant addition to the facility, poised to boost the region's and the nation’s sporting landscape. It will enable athletes to acclimatise to high-altitude conditions and enhance their endurance, stamina, and quick recovery after intense training sessions. Our government is committed to making sports accessible and fostering an environment for athletes to thrive in a more competitive setting,” mentioned Thakur at the event.

The SAI High Altitude Training Centre in Shilaroo already has Hostels which can accommodate 100 male athletes and 50 female athletes. It has 2 Multipurpose halls, an astro-turf hockey field, 13 Staff Quarters and a guest house. The launch of the Synthetic Athletics tracks is also complete.

2 Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan wins Gold medal in women’s 10 metre air rifle event at ISSF World Cup

Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan has won the gold medal in the women’s 10 metre air rifle event at the ISSF World Cup 2023 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Olympian Elavenil Valarivan shot 252.2 from her series of 24 shots in the final and narrowly beat France’s Oceanne Muller. A total of eight shooters qualified for the final. This was Elavenil Valarivan’s second individual ISSF World Cup medal.

Earlier, Elavenil Valarivan finished 9th in the qualification round with 630.5. The Rio meet is the last rifle and pistol ISSF World Cup of 2023. The ongoing event in the Brazilian city will be followed by the finals in Doha, Qatar, scheduled from November 18 to 27. India have sent a 16-member squad for the ISSF World Cup.

3 Government to offer upto 8 percent subsidy for loans given to artisans under Vishwakarma Yojana

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government will offer up to 8 per cent subsidy for loans given to artisans under the PM Vishwakarma scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday. Ms Sitharaman, during the launch event of the scheme, said the government has already made a provision of 13,000 crore rupees in the Budget 2023-24.

Sharing the details of PM Vishwakarma scheme, the finance minister said collateral-free loans to artisans would be provided at a very affordable interest rate of 5 per cent. The scheme covers 18 activities including carpenter, goldsmith, blacksmith, mason, stone sculpture, barber and boatmakers. The government will provide up to 3 lakh rupees loan. She said, one lakh rupees loan will be given and the beneficiary would be eligible for an additional two lakh rupees after a repayment schedule of 18 months. Yesterday, Prime Minister Modi launched the scheme at the International Convention and Expo Centre, Yashobhoomi, in New Delhi on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Modi said, the scheme is a ray of hope for lakhs of artisans and craftspeople who work with hands and tools.

4 G20 Framework Working Group's final meeting commences in Raipur

The fourth and final meeting of the G20 Framework Working Group, FWG under India's G20 Presidency commenced in Raipur today. During the two-day meeting, the Group facilitates discussions on the latest global economic outlook and policy guidance on key macro-economic issues. The meeting will take stock of the discussions in the FWG in 2023 and explore future areas of work. More than 65 delegates from G20 members and invitee countries, and various international and regional organisations are participating in the G20 Framework Working Group meeting.

6 indian Coast Guard conducts International Coastal Cleanup Day – 2023

The Indian Coast Guard conducted International Coastal Clean-up Day – 2023 (ICC-2023) across all Coastal States and Union Territories on 16 Sep 2023. The International Coastal Clean-up day is held worldwide on the third Saturday of September every year under the aegis of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) in the South Asian Region. The Indian Coast Guard has been coordinating this activity in India since 2006.

The campaign was also dedicated to the ongoing efforts of Government for the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s clarion call for mass cleanliness and sanitation campaign, through “Swachhta Hi Seva”.

This year, Maharashtra witnessed the highest participation of 11,425 volunteers followed by Tamil Nadu which had 5,166 volunteers. Nationwide, a total of 25,245 volunteers participated in the ICC-2023 campaign.

7 Rabindranath Tagore's Santiniketan On UNESCO World Heritage List

Santiniketan, where Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore built Visva-Bharati over a century ago, has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The world body made the announcement in a post on 'X' on Sunday.

India has been striving for a long to get a UNESCO tag for this cultural site located in Bengal's Birbhum district.

The decision to include Santiniketan in the list was taken during the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee currently underway in Saudi Arabia.

8 Haryana to give ?50,000 for daughters of industrial workers

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Sunday announced that the state government will grant ₹50,000 to daughters of industrial workers pursuing higher education to purchase electric two-wheelers during an event at Palwal, PTI reported.

The move will promote mobility and enable the daughters of industrial workers to be independent, Khattar said while speaking at Shri Vishwakarma Skill University in Palwal.

9 India win Asia Cup for record-extending 8th time

India chased down a paltry target of 51 against Sri Lanka to win the Asia Cup for the 8th time. The result was a foregone conclusion after Mohammed Siraj had destroyed Sri Lanka's batting line-up with figures of 6 for 21 off 7 overs on Sunday in Colombo after Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bat.

Sri Lanka's batters were clueless and as many as five of them were dismissed without scoring.

10 Srinivasan K Swamy elected chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulations

Srinivasan K Swamy, executive Chairman of R K Swamy Hansa Group, has been elected as the Chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC)  for the year 2023-2024, the organisation said in a statement.  

Swamy is an industry veteran and currently serves as Chairman of the Asian Federation of Advertising Associations. In the past, he acted as the President or Chairman of the International Advertising  Association (IAA), India Chapter, Confederation of Asian Advertising Agency Associations, Advertising Agencies Association of India, and Advertising Standards  Council of India. Earlier, he led All India Management Association, Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Madras Management Association, the statement said.
