In Chess, R Vaishali drew her last-round game against Mongolia’s Batkhuyag Munguntuul to win FIDE Women’s Grand Swiss 2023 at the Isle of Man in UK last night. Vidit Gujrathi beat Alexandr Predke of Serbia to record his seventh victory in the event and take the top spot in open section.

Both players also qualified for the prestigious Candidates tournament to be played in April next year in Canada. Both Vaishali and Vidit ended with identical 8.5 points apiece and stayed a half point clear of nearest rivals.

While Vaishali got richer by over 20 lakh rupees, Vidit took home a whopping prize purse of over 66 lakh rupees.

2 Hockey: India Lifts Women's Asian Champions Trophy; thrashes Japan 4-0

The Indian women’s hockey team dethroned Japan on Sunday to crown themselves Asian Champions Trophy winners. The hosts beat Japan 4-0 in the final in Ranchi. India overcame the two-time champions through goals from Sangita Kumari, Neha, Laremsiami and Vandana Katariya.

India won their maiden Asian Champions Trophy title in 2016 in Singapore, while Japan has bagged the crown twice, in 2013 and 2021.

Following their win, the Captain of Indian women's hockey team, Savita Punia said, "We are feeling very good right now. When we came here we were a bit nervous as Japan is a very good team. Japan played very well too. We played aggressively after halftime."

3 Kerala Jyothi award for writer T. Padmanabhan

Eminent writer T. Padmanabhan has been chosen for the Kerala Jyothi award instituted by the Kerala government on Wednesday. He was selected for the highest civilian honour by the government considering his contributions in the field of Malayalam literature. The State also announced other ‘Kerala Puraskarngals’, the highest award given by the government to distinguished personalities who have made outstanding contributions in various spheres of social life.

Justice (Retired) M. Fathima Beevi and Nataraja Krishnamurthy (Soorya Krishnamurthy) have been selected for the ‘Kerala Prabha’ award considering contributions in the field of social service and civil service and in the field of arts respectively. Others who won the ‘Kerala Sree’ award include Punalur Somarajan (social service sector), V.P. Gangadharan (health sector), Ravi DC (industry and commerce sector), K.M. Chandrasekhar (civil service sector), Pandit Ramesh Narayan (art, music).

5 Shiv Nadar tops philanthropy list with ?2,042-crore donations

Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL Technologies, has retained the top spot as the leading Indian philanthropist, donating ₹2,042 crore annually, according to a report. Azim Premji, Mukesh Ambani, and Kumar Mangalam Birla also feature in the top four positions. The top 10 philanthropists collectively donated ₹5,806 crore in 2022-23, a significant increase from the previous year. The report also highlights a growing trend of large-scale donations, with the number of donors contributing over ₹100 crore and ₹50 crore increasing in recent years.

Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL Technologies, has retained the top spot for the second consecutive year as the leading Indian philanthropist with annual donations of ₹2,042 crore, a report has said. The 78-year-old has topped the chart for the third time in five years.

7 EPFO celebrates 71st Foundation Day

Union Minister for Labour & Employment, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav inaugurated the 71st Foundation Day of EPFO held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi today through virtual mode. He congratulated everyone on the occasion. Shri Rameshwar Teli, Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Smt. Arti Ahuja, Secretary Labour & Employment and Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Central P F Commissioner, Dr. Rajendra Kumar, Director General, ESIC were also present.

Shri Bhupender Yadav expressed happiness over the way EPFO has grown in the years gone by and the way it is managing its huge corpus of savings of the members. He also praised 'Nidhi Aapke Nikat,' an outreach program conducted by every EPFO office at the district level on the 27th of each month. The Union Minister also stated that EPFO had extended the Act's provisions to the working class of Jammu and Kashmir, effective from October 31, 2019.

10 CBSE to open new administrative Office in UAE

In a significant development for the Indian expatriate community in the United Arab Emirates , Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a meeting with the Principals of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated schools in Dubai. One of the significant announcements made during the meeting was the acceptance of a long-standing demand by CBSE schools is to open a regional administrative office in UAE, recognizing the country's central role in overseeing CBSE-affiliated schools in the GCC region. The new office is set to come in the Emirate of Dubai, UAE. This decision is expected to streamline operations and enhance the educational experience for students and teachers in these schools.

Pradhan acknowledged the diverse nationalities within CBSE-affiliated schools in Dubai and commended their contributions to Indian academia and culture. He noted that after the implementation of the National Education Policy in 2020, new challenges and opportunities have emerged.
