3 Ravi Kumar Dahiya returns to wrestling action with bronze medal at Grand Prix De France 2024

Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya, who missed the entire 2023 international season due to injuries, marked his return with a bronze medal at the Grand Prix De France Henri Deglane 2024 wrestling tournament in Nice, France on Saturday.

The star Indian wrestler won his men’s 61kg freestyle bronze medal bout 10-4 against Kairat Amirtayev of Kazakhstan. Dahiya trailed 2-4 in the first minute but used his experience to clinch the contest convincingly.

Dahiya overcame Julien Zinser of Germany in the round of 16 via technical superiority (13-2) followed by a 12-6 win over Zangar Kabylbekov of Kazakhstan in the quarter-final. However, the Indian wrestler suffered a 6-3 defeat against Arman Eloyan of France in the semi-final and was pulled into the bronze medal bout.

4 Pradhanmantri Suryoday Yojana: 1 crore homes to have solar panels

Soon after returning to the national capital Delhi after presiding over the "Pran Pratishtha" ceremony at the "historic" Ayodhya Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced the government's decision to start 'Pradhanmantri Surydaya Yojana', an initiative to generate electricity through solar energy.

"All the devotees of the world always get energy from the light of Suryavanshi Lord Shri Ram. Today, on the auspicious occasion of consecration in Ayodhya, my resolution got further strengthened that the people of India should have their own solar rooftop system on the roof of their houses," Prime Minister Modi posted on X.

5 India-Kyrgyzstan Joint Special Forces Exercise 'Khanjar' commences in Himachal Pradesh

The 11th edition of India-Kyrgyzstan Joint Special Forces Exercise Khanjar started at the Special Forces Training School in Himachal Pradesh's Bakloh. The exercise is being conducted from January 22 to February 3.

The exercise will provide an opportunity for both sides to fortify defence ties while addressing common concerns of international terrorism and extremism. It will also provide an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of cutting-edge indigenous defence equipment. The exercise is an annual event conducted alternately in the two nations.

6 IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar inaugurates Synopsys’ Chip Design Centre in Noida

Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar inaugurated Synopsys’ Chip Design Centre at DLF Tech Park in Noida on Tuesday. The event was attended by senior leadership, employees, partners, and customer delegates of Synopsys.

Synopsys is a global company that provides design portfolios, ranging from silicon to software, contributing to $5.9 billion in revenue. The company has established the second-largest design centre in India, extending beyond its headquarters, demonstrating confidence in Indian design talent. This centre is home to approximately 6,000 engineers from India, constituting 27 percent of their global design workforce.

Minister Chandrasekhar spoke about the growing ecosystem of fabless chip design and innovation in India during the inauguration. He praised Synopsys for its contribution to this ecosystem and emphasized the importance of design in India, as set out by Prime Minister Modi.

7 63rd Central Geological Programming Board Meeting to be held in Bhopal on 22nd January 2024

The 63rd Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) meeting organized by Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines will be held on 22nd January 2024 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

The meeting will be held under the Chairmanship of Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, Govt. of India, Ministry of Mines. It will be attended by Shri Sanjay Lohiya, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Shri Janardan Prasad, Director General, GSI and other senior functionaries of different Ministries, State Directorates of Mining & Geology, PSUs, representatives from private mining industry, Mining associations and other stakeholders.

On this occasion, GSI will hand over the Report on Geological & Geotechnical investigation of Joshimath Township, Chamoli District, to Uttarakhand Govt. The Mineral Map of the newly carved out UT of Ladakh will also be released on this occasion along with other significant publication of GSI.

8 First meeting of the Social Audit Advisory Body (SAAB) held

The 1st meeting of the Social Audit Advisory Body (SAAB) was held on 18th January 2024 at conference hall, Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. The Meeting was chaired by the Secretary, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment. This advisory body, a first of its kind, has been established to guide the Ministry in institutionalizing social audits for its various schemes.

Representatives from key ministries and academic institutions, including the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Department of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Ministry of Rural Development, National Institute of Rural Development, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Delhi School of Social Work and Indian Institute of Public Administration are members of this advisory body.

The history of the celebration of Mamani Festival in Ladakh goes back to the ancient tradition of giving food to departed family members. During Mamani, people would exchange food with their relatives and neighbours and worship a variety of spirits (Lha). These Festivals have helped in the revival of more than 35 Cuisines of Kargil Ladakh.

10 Delhi discoms, UP's NPCL bag top ratings of power distribution companies

Four electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have bagged the coveted A+ rating in the latest Consumer Service Rating of Discoms (CSRD) report.

The report, unveiled by Power Minister RK Singh on Friday, tracks the performance of DISCOMs across the country and aims to improve their accountability towards consumers.

"Out of the 62 DISCOMs evaluated, Delhi emerged as the frontrunner, with three companies securing the top rating: BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), " Office of union Minister RK Singh posted on X.
