The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan){DEPwD}, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt of India through National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC) regularly organizes Divya Kala Mela- a unique event showcasing the products and craftsmanship of Divyang entrepreneurs/artisans from across the country. To continue the efforts of empowering Divyang Entrepreneurs, Divya Kala Mela is being organized from 6th to 11thFebruary 2024 at Children Park, Agartala(Tripura).

The Divya Kala Mela, Agartala inaugurated on 06th February 2024 at 5.00 PM by Shri Ratan Lal Nath, Cabinet Minister of Power, Agriculture & Farmer's Welfare and Election Department, Govt. of Tripura in august presence of Shri Tinku Roy, Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education and Labour, Govt. of Tripura. Shri Naveen Shah, IFS, CMD, NDFDC ,Sh. Achintam Killikdar, Dy. Commissioner For PwDs, Shri Rajib Ghosh, State Convener, BJP Divyangjan Cell, Tripura, prominent NGOs working for Divyangjan and other dignitaries were also present during the programme.

2 Malaysia’s Lincoln University College Applies To UGC To Establish Campus In Telangana, India

Malaysia’s Lincoln University College has applied to the UGC to set up a campus in Telangana, the Union Ministry of Education told the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar in response to a question about whether the government has received applications from foreign universities to establish campuses in India.

“The UGC (University Grants Commission) has opened the portal for inviting applications for setting up campuses of FHEIs (Foreign Higher Education Institutions) in India. An application has been received from Lincoln University College, Malaysia, for setting up a campus in Telangana,” he said.

3 Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla launches books by Dr Ramchandra Tiwari

Governor of Himachal Pradesh Shiv Pratap Shukla on Monday presided over the book launch ceremony organised by the Department of Hindi and Modern Indian Languages and Journalism at Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Gorakhpur University of Uttar Pradesh where he inaugurated the 15th edition of Dr. Ramchandra Tiwari's two books 'Hindi Ka Gadya-Sahitya' and the third edition of 'Yoga Ke Vividh Aayam'.

On this occasion, the Governor said that the work of Hindi literature whose foundation stone has been laid by Dr. Tiwari will act as a path breaker for future generations. While talking about the form and development of Hindi prose, he has underlined its development step by step.

4 Odisha: Baramunda ISBT in Bhubaneswar to be named after BR Ambedkar

Baramunda Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Bhubaneswar will be named after BR Ambedkar, a social reformer and one of the architects of the Indian Constitution, said the Odisha Chief Minister's office on Monday.

A special gallery on Babasaheb will also be developed at the ISBT.

Spanning over 15.5 acres of land, the ISBT Baramunda project, spearheaded by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), aims to offer a range of passenger amenities, office spaces, parking facilities, food courts, restaurants, and commercial areas. The feel and experience will be that of an airport.

5 DRDO developed aerial target ‘ABHYAS’ ready for production

Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) said on Monday that it successfully carried out four flight trials of High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT), making its product which can be used for weapon system firing practice, ready for production and export to friendly countries.

Four flights of ABHYAS, designed by the DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) and called as ‘ABHYAS’, were successfully carried out from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha, from January 30 to February 2, it officially stated. HEAT will be used as an airborne object to target by missiles and other payloads during trials and pratice sessions.

6 Israeli scientists find new underwater canyon near Cyprus

The Geological Institute of Israel uncovered a never before known about underwater canyon near Cyprus. The canyon, known as Eratosthenes for the underwater mountain it is near, dates back to the Messinian Event that transpired about 5.5 million years ago.

The canyon is about 10 km wide and 500 m deep and was buried at the beginning of the Messinian period before the deposition of the salt layer.

It was created when the level of the Mediterranean Sea decreased at the same time there was a rise in the salinity of the water, which apparently created gravity currents or dense solutions that caused the destabilization of the submarine slopes and subsidence of the seabed.

7 Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to inaugurate ULLAS Mela at National Bal Bhavan in New Delhi

The ULLAS Mela will witness the participation of 700 individuals from various states and union territories, alongside over 100 dignitaries representing the Ministry of Education and diverse organizations.

The central government has been actively implementing the Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram, also known as the New India Literacy Program, spanning from fiscal years 2022 to 2027. Recognized as ULLAS, standing for Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society, the scheme is guided by the motto "Jan-Jan Sakshar." It primarily targets individuals aged 15 and above who lack literacy and have not had the opportunity to receive formal education.

The scheme aims to achieve multiple objectives, including the provision of foundational literacy and numeracy. Additionally, it encompasses various components such as critical life skills, covering areas like financial literacy, digital literacy, commercial skills, healthcare and awareness, child care and education, and family welfare. The scheme also focuses on vocational skills development, aiming to equip individuals with skills for local employment.

9 REC wins Best Green Bond - Corporate Award at The Asset Triple A Awards for Sustainable Finance 2024

REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power and a leading NBFC, has been bestowed with the prestigious Best Green Bond - Corporate Award at The Asset Triple A Awards for Sustainable Finance 2024.

REC has received the award for issuance of $750 million USD Green Bonds in April 2023 which was also the first USD Green Bond issuance from India post India’s assumption of G20 Presidency and the largest ever Senior Green Bond Tranche by a South or South-East Asian issuer. The bond issue was priced at a minimum new issue premium of 7.5 bps, which was tighter than the most recent high-rated issuances from the region. The issue was well received by the investors and demonstrates REC’s significant contribution to financing projects aimed at mitigating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.

10 MRPL signs agreement with BPCL for RLNG

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has signed a long-term gas supply agreement with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) for five years.

Under the agreement, BPCL will supply 0.43 MMSCMD (Million Metric Standard Cubic Meters per Day) of RLNG (Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas) to MRPL’s refinery and petrochemical facility in Mangaluru from Cochin terminal.

A media statement said that gas plays a significant role in refining crude oil, reducing feed costs, optimising fuel, and lowering overall emissions from the refinery. MRPL intends to utilise RLNG as feed for the production of hydrogen and fuel for gas turbines to generate power, steam, and various furnaces. Using natural gas in the refinery helps reduce both the emissions and carbon footprint of the refinery.
