Ashwin Ramaswami has become the first Indian-American from Gen Z to run for a State or federal legislature in the U.S., indicative of a new breed of young politicians emerging from the community.

Mr. Ramaswami's parents immigrated to the U.S. from Tamil Nadu in 1990. Generation Z (also known as Zoomers) encompasses those born between 1997 and 2012.

“I'm running for (Georgia) State Senate to give back to my community. I want to make sure that everyone has the same opportunities I had growing up," Mr. Ramaswami, 24, told PTI in a recent interview.

Madhya Pradesh cabinet has unanimously approved 50 per cent discount in the lifetime motor vehicle tax rate on the sale of non-transport vehicles and light vehicles in the 'Ujjain Vikramotsav Trade Fair 2024.'

A proposal for the same was tabled before the state cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at Mantralaya on Monday and the council of ministers approved the proposal.

Vikramotsav Trade Fair will be held in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district from March 1 to April 9. Various cultural programs will also be organised here during this period.

The Indian Army in collaboration with the handicraft department of Manipur govt has initiated a woman empowerment programme at Phougakchao in Bishnupur district to provide women of the area comprehensive training in handloom weaving.

A defence spokesperson said the collaborative effort will assist in preserving the traditional handicrafts by creating sustainable economic opportunities for women in the region.

The Army facilitated the collection of handloom from Narainsena, Nambol and Imphal and stores were provisioned for the women of the far-flung villages, despite the unrest in the region. The spokesperson said the initiative saw the participation of 35 women from local villages, which is likely to go up subsequently.
