| 2 | Zimbabwe launches new gold-backed currency | Zimbabwe has introduced a new gold-backed currency called ZiG - the name stands for "Zimbabwe Gold". It is the latest attempt to stabilise an economy that has lurched from crisis to crisis for the past 25 years. Unveiling the new notes, central bank governor John Mushayavanhu said the ZiG would be structured, and set at a market-determined exchange rate. The ZiG replaces a Zimbabwean dollar, the RTGS, that had lost three-quarters of its value so far this year. |

| 3 | Sumit Nagal scripts history, becomes 1st Indian man to win Masters 1000 match | Sumit Nagal on Monday became the first Indian man to win a match in a Masters 1000 tournament on clay. The top-ranked Indian singles player defeated Matteo Arnaldi of Italy in a terrific come-from-behind effort. Nagal won the first round match at the Monte Carlo Masters 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. The unseeded 95th-ranked Nagal was only the third Indian to feature in the main draw in Monte Carlo after Vijay Amritraj in 1977 and Ramesh Krishanan in 1982. He became the first-ever ATP Masters 1000 match on clay since 1990. The 26-year-old stunned the World No. 38 as he will next face Denmark’s Hoger Rune in the next round on April 9, Tuesday. |

| 6 | John Tinniswood, the 114-Year-Old Named World’s Oldest Living Man | Guinness World Records has named 114-year-old British retiree John Alfred Tinniswood as the world’s oldest living man after the death of the Venezuelan previous titleholder, Juan Vicente Pérez. “Born in Liverpool on 26 August 1912 – the same year the Titanic sank – John’s exact age is 111 years 223 days as of 5 April 2024,” the record-keeping organisation said in a release. Tinniswood has lived through both the world wars, having served in the British Army Pay Corps during World War II – which also makes him its oldest-surviving veteran. |

| 9 | RBI imposes penalties on IDFC First Bank, LIC Housing Finance for non-compliance | The Reserve Bank has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on IDFC First Bank and Rs 49.70 lakh on LIC Housing Finance for violation of certain norms regarding loans. In a statement, the RBI said the penalty on IDFC First Bank has been imposed for non-compliance with certain directions on 'Loans and Advances - Statutory and Other Restrictions'. The Statutory Inspection for Supervisory Evaluation for FY22 revealed that the bank had sanctioned term loans to a public sector undertaking for financing infrastructure projects without undertaking due diligence on the viability and bankability of the projects to ensure that revenue streams from the projects were sufficient to take care of the debt servicing obligations. The repayment/servicing of the term loans was made out of budgetary resources. |
