This recognition comes in light of their groundbreaking study on 'The efficacy of RevitalVision vision-training software in improving best-corrected vision in stable keratoconus patients post Crosslinking surgery.'

Led by ophthalmologists Prof. Lional Raj and Prof. David Heber, the research team at Dr Agarwal's Eye Hospital in Tirunelveli will be presenting their pioneering work at the ASCRS annual meeting held in Boston in April. Their prospective controlled, randomised study has yielded remarkable clinical outcomes, offering new hope for patients suffering from keratoconus.

Zimbabwe has introduced a new gold-backed currency called ZiG - the name stands for "Zimbabwe Gold".

It is the latest attempt to stabilise an economy that has lurched from crisis to crisis for the past 25 years.

Unveiling the new notes, central bank governor John Mushayavanhu said the ZiG would be structured, and set at a market-determined exchange rate.

The ZiG replaces a Zimbabwean dollar, the RTGS, that had lost three-quarters of its value so far this year.

Sumit Nagal on Monday became the first Indian man to win a match in a Masters 1000 tournament on clay. The top-ranked Indian singles player defeated Matteo Arnaldi of Italy in a terrific come-from-behind effort. Nagal won the first round match at the Monte Carlo Masters 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.

The unseeded 95th-ranked Nagal was only the third Indian to feature in the main draw in Monte Carlo after Vijay Amritraj in 1977 and Ramesh Krishanan in 1982. He became the first-ever ATP Masters 1000 match on clay since 1990. The 26-year-old stunned the World No. 38 as he will next face Denmark’s Hoger Rune in the next round on April 9, Tuesday.

Wipro Limited on Saturday announced Srinivas Pallia as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective immediately, according to the exchange filing on BSE.

Pallia will succeed Wipro's former CEO Thierry Delaporte, who stepped down from the post after four years “to pursue passions outside the workplace".

Srinivas Pallia will be based in New Jersey and will report to Wipro's Chairman, Rishad Premji.

India’s Vidit Gujrathi pulled off a stunner in Round 2 of the Candidates, defeating world No. 3 and tournament favourite Hikaru Nakamura with the Black pieces. It brought the American GM’s 47-classical-game unbeaten streak to an end. The last time Hikaru lost a classical game was back in the 2022 Candidates tournament, against current reigning world champion Ding Liren. This also marks Vidit’s first-ever win against Hikaru in classical chess.

Guinness World Records has named 114-year-old British retiree John Alfred Tinniswood as the world’s oldest living man after the death of the Venezuelan previous titleholder, Juan Vicente Pérez.

“Born in Liverpool on 26 August 1912 – the same year the Titanic sank – John’s exact age is 111 years 223 days as of 5 April 2024,” the record-keeping organisation said in a release.

Tinniswood has lived through both the world wars, having served in the British Army Pay Corps during World War II – which also makes him its oldest-surviving veteran.

The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Ltd. (NCDFI), in its Board elections held on Friday, unanimously elected Dr. Meenesh Shah as the Chairman.

The election was conducted by Praveen Chaudhary, IAS, District Collector of Anand who served as the Returning Officer. Prior to this, NCDFI in its General Body meeting held on April 04, 2024 elected eight directors on the Board unopposed. This included Dr Meenesh Shah, Jharkhand Milk Federation, Dr. Mangal Jit Rai, Sikkim Milk Union, Shamalbhai B. Patel, Gujarat Milk Federation, Randhir Singh, Haryana Milk Federation, K. S. The Delhi High Court has appointed Justice Najmi Waziri, a former judge of the court, as the Chairman of the Internal Departmental Committee dedicated to the protection and management of deemed forests within the national capital.

This decision comes as part of the court’s efforts to preserve these vital ecological areas.

Justice Jasmeet Singh has directed the Delhi government to ensure that Justice Waziri is provided with all necessary facilities and secretarial support to facilitate the Committee’s work.

The court has empowered Justice Waziri to determine his own honorarium and the resources required for the Committee to function effectively.

The Reserve Bank has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on IDFC First Bank and Rs 49.70 lakh on LIC Housing Finance for violation of certain norms regarding loans. In a statement, the RBI said the penalty on IDFC First Bank has been imposed for non-compliance with certain directions on 'Loans and Advances - Statutory and Other Restrictions'.

The Statutory Inspection for Supervisory Evaluation for FY22 revealed that the bank had sanctioned term loans to a public sector undertaking for financing infrastructure projects without undertaking due diligence on the viability and bankability of the projects to ensure that revenue streams from the projects were sufficient to take care of the debt servicing obligations. The repayment/servicing of the term loans was made out of budgetary resources.

Parivartan Chintan, a pioneering Tri-Service Conference aimed at generating new and fresh ideas, initiatives and reforms to propel Jointness and Integration efforts will be held in New Delhi on Monday. The day long discussions will be chaired by Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan.

It will be the first ever conference of the Heads of all Tri- Services Institutions, the Department of Military Affairs, Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and the three Services. Officers from varied service brackets, through their diverse understanding and experience will recommend measures to achieve the desired “Joint and Integrated” end state with celerity.

Defence Ministry said, with the Indian Armed Forces having embarked on a major transformative change in their quest to be ready for the envisaged future wars, initiatives are being undertaken to promote Jointness and Integration as structures are modified to enable Tri- Service multi domain operations.
