A Russian rocket blasted off for a test flight on Thursday at the third try, after previous launch attempts earlier this week were aborted in the final seconds of countdown.

The flagship Angara A5 -- a powerful spacecraft designed to carry heavy payloads into low Earth orbit -- took off from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Russian Far East, a live broadcast showed.

"The rocket worked according to plan. The upper stage separated ... and is currently putting the test payload into target orbit," the Roscosmos space agency said in a social media post shortly after the launch.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out successful trials of the Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) Weapon System at PFFR in Rajasthan.

The trials were conducted in the presence of the user team. During the trials, the missile performance and warhead performance were found to be remarkable.

According to a press release, the Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) Weapon System was indigenously designed and developed by DRDO. It consists of MPATGM, the Man Portable Launcher, the Target Acquisition System (TAS), and the Fire Control Unit (FCU).

Arvind Kumar is set to be next Director (Refineries) of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG). Presently, he is serving as Managing Director Managing Director (MD) & CEO of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL).

Kumar has been recommended for the post of Director (Refineries) of Indian Oil from a list of 12 candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel in its selection meeting held on April 10. Out of 12 candidates, nine candidates were from Indian Oil, two from BPCL and one each from CPCL and Engineers India Limited (EIL).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Vandita Kaul (IPoS) as Secretary of Department of Posts on Friday. According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on April 12, Vandita has been appointed as Secretary of the Department of Posts in place of Vineet Pandey (IPoS), upon his superannuation from the post.

Vandita is an Indian Postel Service (IPoS) service officer of 1989-batch. Presently, she is posted as Member (Banking & Direct Benefit Transfer) of Postal Services.

Mamta G. Sagar, a Bengaluru-based Kannada poet, writer, academic and activist, has recently won the World Literary Prize from the World Organization of Writers (WOW) for her contributions to the world of literature. Dr Sagar, a facilitator at Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design, and Technology, known for her involvement in diverse forms of transdisciplinary creative writing and cultural industries, received the award on April 6 at a ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria.

“I am deeply honoured to receive the award and diploma. This recognition is a testament to the power of literature to inspire and provoke thought irrespective of the language,” said Dr. Sagar on receiving the news of her win. “I am humbled to be acknowledged among such esteemed writers.”

Gopi Thotakura is all set to become the first Indian “tourist" to fly to the "lower earth orbit in the near future". He is among the six-person crew flying on Blue Origin's New Shepard 25th Mission (or NS-25 mission). His name was released by Blue Origin on X on April 4. He has been selected as a tourist to go to space on board a Blue Origin rocket.

In an interview with news agency ANI, Thotakura spoke about his “original dream" of becoming an astronaut. He also discussed the struggle of becoming an astronaut in the United States.
