1 Pakistan conducts successful training launch of 'Fatah-II' rocket system

Pakistan on Wednesday conducted a successful training launch of guided multi-launch rocket system 'Fatah-II', which is capable of engaging targets with high precision up to a range of 400 kilometres, the army said. The launch of Fatah-II Guided Rocket System was aimed at perfecting the launch drills and procedures, the army said in a statement.

"Equipped with state-of-the-art navigation system, unique trajectory and manoeuvrable features, Fatah-II is capable of engaging targets with high precision and defeating any missile defence system," it said.

Moreover, the army also announced that "Fatah -II is being inducted in Pakistan's Artillery Divisions for stand-off, precision engagement of deep targets," and its induction would significantly upgrade the reach and lethality of the army's conventional arsenal.

2 India Showcases Its Green Hydrogen Potential At World Hydrogen Summit 2024

India has set up its pavilion at the 2024 World Hydrogen Summit, currently underway in Rotterdam, Netherlands from May 13-15. Organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the India Pavilion stands as one of the largest at the event, showcasing the country’s advancements in green hydrogen technology and facilitating engagement with stakeholders.

India launched its National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023 with an overall outlay of Rs 19,744 crore. It targets to achieve green hydrogen production capacity of 5 million tonnes by the end of 2030.

Additionally, scheme guidelines have been notified for utilizing green hydrogen in key sectors such as steel, transportation, and shipping. Furthermore, the Department of Science and Technology has initiated Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters to foster innovation and promote Green Hydrogen ecosystem in India.

3 FICCI and IESA sign MoU to foster innovation in semiconductor industry

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote innovation, support the semiconductor and electronics industry, and strengthen supply chains.

The MoU, signed on April 14 in Bengaluru, establishes a framework for long-term collaboration between the two organisations.

"This collaboration will focus on establishing a joint task force on semiconductors and future critical technologies. The core objective of this MoU is to conduct technology consultative roundtables and foster business partnerships," said SK Pathak, secretary general of FICCI, in a press release.

6 Sela Tunnel recognised as India's highest tunnel by International Book of Honour

BRO India celebrates as the Sela Tunnel is officially recognised as the highest tunnel in the country by the International Book of Honour, England.

The 2.598 Km long tunnel is situated at an altitude of 13000 ft on the Tezpur-Tawang Road and has been constructed by BRO India to guarantee year-round connectivity to the strategic Tawang Region.

Taking to his X handle, Arunachal CM wrote, "I'm so happy to learn that the International Book of Honour, England, has recognized Sela Tunnel as the highest one in the country. This 2.598-km long engineering marvel by @BROindia at an altitude of 13000 ft on Tezpur-Tawang road has given a big boost to the ease of connectivity in the strategic region of Arunachal Pradesh."

7 Hanooman AI launched in India with ability to understand 98 languages

3AI Holding Limited and SML India have announced the launch of 'Hanooman', a multilingual GenAI platform in 98 global languages, including 12 Indian languages. The new AI is available to all users and you can register for the same using your phone number. The new AI tool is currently limited to creating text responses.

According to Hanooman AI, the knowledge cut-off for the data it is trained on is April 10, 2022. The AI model will also be introducing a Pro version which is currently shows 'coming soon' status.

The platform aims to reach 200 million users within its first year. SML India has partnered with HP, NASSCOM, and Yotta for this initiative. Yotta will provide GPU cloud infrastructure, while the partnership with NASSCOM is aimed at supporting AI startups and engaging with 3000 colleges.

8 Dileep Sanghani Elected As Chairman Of IFFCO

Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) conducted its 15th RGB elections for its Board of Directors, covering members from more than 36,000 cooperative societies at IFFCO Sadan, New Delhi.

A massive exercise that was started in the month of March saw Dileep Sanghani emerge as the Chairman of IFFCO and Balvir Singh as the Vice Chairman.

The elections for the post of 21 Directors were held on May 9, 2024, at the corporate office of IFFCO, New Delhi.

9 SBI becomes trading-clearing member of IIBX at GIFT City

The State Bank of India (SBI) on Tuesday announced that it has secured the distinction of being the first bank to become a trading-cum-clearing (TCM) Member of India International Bullion Exchange at the GIFT City in Gujarat.

This milestone enables SBI IBU Gift City to conduct trades on the IIBX platform and settle them on behalf of its clients, per an official release.

RBI guidelines permitted branches of an Indian Bank in GIFT IFSC to act as a trading member (TM)/trading and clearing member (TCM) of IIBX. The central bank also allowed special category clients (SCC) which are nominated banks in India to import gold through IIBX.

The entry of India’s largest bank into the field as a TCM is poised to boost trading volumes at IIBX, the release added.

10 Shyam Nikhil becomes India’s 85th GM

In a sport often featuring teenage prodigies, Shyam Nikhil is the poster boy for patience. The Tamil Nadu chess player became an International Master (IM) at the age of 18 way back in 2010, before collecting two out of the three norms needed to become a GM within a year. By 2012, he had also crossed the threshold of 2500 rating
points necessary to become a grandmaster. He seemed destined to become India’s 28th grandmaster very soon, but fate had other plans.

It took Shyam 12 more years to attain the elite status he was seeking. This week, the now 31-year-old from Tamil Nadu earned that third norm which will make him India’s 85th grandmaster. His elevation is in stark contrast to that of Gukesh, who will challenge for the world chess championship crown later this year, was India’s youngest-ever grandmaster at the age of 12.
