1 Air India enters into codeshare pact with Japan's All Nippon Airways

Air India has entered into a codeshare partnership with Japan's All Nippon Airways.

With the codeshare, effective for travel from May 23, Air India and All Nippon Airways passengers can fly to their desired destination by combining those flights between India and Japan with a single ticket.

Air India will add its 'AI' designator code on ANA's flights between Tokyo Haneda and Delhi as well as Tokyo Narita and Mumbai.

ANA will add its 'NH' designator code on Air India's flight between Tokyo Narita and Delhi, a release said on Tuesday.

2 NASA hears from Voyager 1, the most distant spacecraft from Earth after months of quiet

NASA has finally heard back from Voyager 1 again in a way that makes sense.

The most distant spacecraft from Earth stopped sending back understandable data last November. Flight controllers traced the blank communication to a bad computer chip and rearranged the spacecraft’s coding to work around the trouble.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California declared success after receiving good engineering updates late last week. The team is still working to restore transmission of the science data.

3 IFCI gets Rs 500 crore capital infusion from Govt

State-owned IFCI on Monday said it has received a capital infusion of Rs 500 crore through the issuance of equity shares to the government on a preferential basis.

Allotment of 12,39,77,188 shares to the Government of India was done on April 18, 2024, on a preferential basis, IFCI said in a regulatory filing.

Following the capital infusion, the government holding in the oldest financial institution IFCI has increased from 70.32 percent to 71.72 percent.

The government had infused Rs 100 crore in 2022 in long-term infrastructure financier IFCI Ltd.

4 Reliance Jio emerges as World's largest mobile operator in data traffic

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, expressed his satisfaction with Reliance Jio’s success, which has now become the world's largest mobile operator in terms of data traffic, ahead of China Mobile.

Jio revealed its quarterly results on Monday, showcasing the milestone achieved. As per a press release, the total traffic on the Jio network has reached 40.9 Exabytes, which is a 35.2 percent year-on-year increase. Also, Jio has a very strong and wide subscriber base of 481.8 million.

5 BharatPe launches all-in-one payment device BharatPe One

Indian fintech major BharatPe on Tuesday launched BharatPe One, an all-in-one payment product that integrates POS (point of sale), QR code, and speaker into one device.

The company in a statement said it plans to launch the product in about 100 cities in the first phase. It will further scale it to around 450 cities over the course of the next 6 months.

6 Indian Navy's female duo completes historic transoceanic sortie ahead of solo circumnavigation

Lieutenant commanders Dilna K and Roopa Alagirisamy, the two women officers handpicked as potential candidates for the upcoming Sagar Parikrama IV, the Navy’s most ambitious voyage yet, have successfully completed their ‘final examination’ on the seas.

The so-called test entailed undertaking a transoceanic sortie aboard INSV Tarini from Goa to Port Louis in Mauritius, and back. This nearly 5,000 nautical mile journey in double-handed mode was the first-of-its-kind by Indian women, thus marking a significant milestone for the Navy.

The women duo recorded ‘full marks’ when Tarini was flagged in by the who’s who of INS Mandovi at the boat pool in Goa on Sunday. It concluded a two-month expedition that began on February 28 and also involved a series of events to strengthen bilateral ties during the stopover in Mauritius.

8 Papua New Guinea appoints first defence adviser to India

In an important step in taking forward defence cooperation between India and Papua New Guinea (PNG), PNG appointed its first defence adviser to India. Col Edison Napyo, who will serve as the defence adviser was given a farewell on April 17 by the PNG’s acting Chief of Defence Force Commodore Philip Polewara.

In May 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited PNG and attended the third summit of the Forum for India Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) where he spoke in favour of free and open Indo-Pacific region and focused on India’s commitment to assist the development goals of the member countries of FIPIC.

9 India successfully test fires new version of medium-range ballistic missile

India on Tuesday carried out a successful test firing of a new version of a medium-range ballistic missile.

The defence ministry said the user launch has proven the operational capability of the missile with new technologies.

The test firing was conducted under the aegis of the strategic forces command.

"A successful launch of the new variant of a medium-range ballistic missile was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command on April 23," the ministry said.

"The user launch has proven the operational capability of the Command and validated new technologies," it said in a brief statement.

10 Iffco plans to begin production of Nano Urea Plus fertiliser this week

Cooperative major IFFCO on Monday said it will begin production of the 'Nano Urea Plus' fertiliser this week and its commercial sale from May 1.

Nano Urea Plus is a new version of nano urea meant for meeting crop nitrogen requirements at critical growth phases.

Currently, IFFCO offers 'Nano Urea' with 1-5 per cent weight by weight nitrogen content. However, the Nano Urea Plus fertiliser has 16 per cent nitrogen content weight by weight.

"We will start the production of Nano Urea Plus this week and the product will be available in the market from May 1," a senior IFFCO official told PTI.
