The Government of Karnataka has introduced the Karnataka Digital Advertising Guidelines 2024 to enhance the usage of digital media in public communication. Under this, it will approach social media influencers to advertise government schemes and programmes.

The announcement was made by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) on August 28. The guidelines by the DIPR made it compulsory for all government departments, corporations, authorities, boards, local governing bodies, town municipalities, city corporations, etc. to follow them.

Apart from defining roles, the guidelines also laid down eligibility criteria for digital entities. The digital entities must be at least one year old and should have a continuous record of publishing content for at least one year. They must also adhere to other unspecified guidelines for content and ethical standards.

The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to build global technology hubs with a $4 billion investment as it targets 10x growth in the Information Technology (IT) & IT-enabled Services (ITeS) sectors in the next five years.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has become the first Indian company to surpass Rs 10 lakh crore in annual revenue. This significant milestone was announced by RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani during the company's Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Thursday.

During the AGM, Ambani revealed that Reliance achieved a record consolidated turnover of Rs 10,00,122 crore (USD 119.9 billion) for the financial year 2023-24.

For the same period, RIL reported an EBITDA of Rs 1,78,677 crore (USD 21.4 billion) and a net profit of Rs 79,020 crore (USD 9.5 billion).

Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said his government signed preliminary investment deals worth ₹4.5 lakh crore during a roadshow meeting with investors and industrialists in Mumbai on Friday. It was the first roadshow for the 'Rising Rajasthan' Global Investors Summit 2024 to be held in Jaipur in December. In an interview to ET's Krishna Kumar, Sharma said his government is taking unique and offbeat steps to boost investments and create jobs in Rajasthan, unlike the previous Congress government that he claimed focused on freebies.

State-owned NTPC on Thursday said it has commissioned its 160 MW capacity of the 320 MW Bhainsara solar project in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. With this, the total installed and commercial capacity of the NTPC group will go up to 76,294 MW, the company said in a regulatory filing.

The company said that consequent upon successful commissioning, NTPC REL, a stepdown subsidiary of NTPC Ltd through its wholly owned subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd, has commenced commercial operations with effect from August 28.

NTPC share price settled at ₹411.10 apiece on the NSE, up half a percent. So far this year, the stock has gained 33%.

The Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United World Wrestling (UWW), the global governing body for wrestling, to develop the sport in India.

The MoU was formalised at UWW’s hospitality venue, the Wrestling House, located on a boat near the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The agreement aims to establish a collaborative framework for developing wrestling in India through various mutually beneficial programs, initiatives, projects, and activities.

“We are thrilled to have signed an MoU with United World Wrestling that’s aimed at furthering the progress India has made in the sport. Historically, India has produced some of the best wrestlers worldwide, and the support from UWW will take our programs to the next level,” IIS Founder Parth Jindal said in a release.

The Uttar Pradesh governement has given nod to a new social media policy with 'big offers' for influencers and stringent punishments for those making 'objectionable' content.

Yogi Adityanath's cabinet approved the Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy, 2024, prepared by the state's information department, on Tuesday.

According to media reports citing a state information department's statement, the government has decided to list agencies/firms to give advertisement in order to promote them for making and displaying content/tweet/video/post/reels about schemes and achievements of the UP government on online platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

The new policy also makes provisions for life imprionment to people making anti-national, obscene or objectionable content.

Senior IAS officer Dr T.V. Somanathan today took over as the new Cabinet Secretary following the superannuation of Rajiv Gauba. Dr. Somanathan, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, has held important assignments at the Centre, including Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office. He also served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and was deputed as Director of Corporate Affairs at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. Before he was appointed Cabinet Secretary, he held the position of Finance Secretary and Secretary of the Department of Expenditure.

Shooters Avani Lekhara and Mona Aggarwal opened India's account at the 2024 Paris Paralympics by securing gold and bronze medals, respectively, in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event. Avani, who won the gold medal in the same event at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, successfully defended her title, setting a Paralympic Games record with 249.7 points in the final standings.

India's para-shooter Mona Aggarwal, who secured the bronze medal, finished with 228.7 points in the final standings.

Avani, who became the first Indian woman para-shooter to win gold in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, is now also the only Indian woman to win two gold medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Avani met with an accident when she was just 11 years old and became wheelchair-bound. She broke her own Paralympics Games record of 249.6 points in Tokyo by scoring 249.7 in Paris.
