| 1 | Sheikh Hasina sentenced to death by Bangladesh tribunal for 'crimes against humanity' | Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-BD) on Monday sentenced deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina to death after finding her guilty of alleged crimes against humanity committed during last year’s student-led agitation that led to the fall of her Awami League government. The three-member tribunal also delivered its judgment against two of Hasina’s aides — former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun — over the same charges. Al-Mamun was produced before the tribunal. The former Bangladesh prime minister was "found guilty on three counts" of preventing justice, ordering the killing of protesters and failing to take measures to stop punitive killings. |

| 3 | India's 6-KM Sea Lab Could Transform Deep-Ocean Science | India has unveiled an ambitious plan to build the world’s deepest underwater laboratory in the Indian Ocean, a project that could redefine the country’s scientific presence in the deep sea over the next 25 years. Designed to operate at a depth of 6,000 metres, the proposed habitat aims to enable long-duration stays, advanced experimentation, and direct monitoring of one of the least explored regions of the planet. According to Dr Balaji Ramakrishnan, Director of the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), the journey will begin with a demonstrator module placed at a depth of 500 metres. Three scientists will be able to stay in this initial station for more than 24 hours, as reported by TOI. The facility will include an advanced life-support system and a docking arrangement for deep-sea vehicles. Officials describe the concept as the marine equivalent of the International Space Station. |

| 10 | Centre notifies data protection rules | The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) Friday notified the long awaited data protection rules, paving the way for India to have a functional privacy law, eight years after the Supreme Court ruled it as a fundamental right. The notification of the rules comes over two years after the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act) received the President’s assent in August 2023. While the law is now operational, only parts of it are currently in force, as some of the most important protections available to citizens under the law will take longer — between 12 to 18 months — to be implemented. For instance, the requirement for entities to seek informed consent from users before processing their personal data, using their personal data only for specified legitimate uses, and for entities to notify data breaches to users, will all only be operationalised after 18 months. |
