1 PM Modi to launch major infrastructure and urban development projects in Gujarat on May 26–27

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Gujarat on Monday, during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a series of major infrastructure and development projects across Dahod, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar. The projects, collectively worth over Rs 77,000 crore, span across sectors such as railways, power, urban development, and housing.

Day 1: Focus on Dahod and Bhuj

On Monday, the Prime Minister will begin his visit in Dahod. At around 11:15 AM, he will inaugurate a state-of-the-art Locomotive Manufacturing Plant established by Indian Railways. This facility will produce high-power 9000 HP electric locomotives for both domestic use and export. These advanced locomotives are equipped with regenerative braking systems designed to reduce energy consumption and enhance environmental sustainability. The PM will also flag off the first electric locomotive manufactured at the plant.

2 HM Amit Shah to Lay Foundation Stones for Cancer Care & Forensic University Campuses in Nagpur

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone of ‘Swasti Niwas’ at the National Cancer Institute in Jamtha (जामठा), Nagpur, this morning. He will also lay the foundation stone of the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) Nagpur campus at Chicholi (चिचोली) in Kamptee (कामठी) block in the afternoon. Mr Shah is on a three-day visit to Maharashtra beginning today.

Meanwhile, NFSU Founder Vice Chancellor Dr JM Vyas has informed that the establishment of the new campus of NFSU in Maharashtra will create a group of “skilled forensic experts”. The Nagpur campus will be the 11th campus of NFSU and the first one in Maharashtra. After Nagpur, Mr. Shah will attend various programs in Nanded today. The Home Minister will visit Mumbai tomorrow to attend various programs.

3 K Srikanth finishes as Runner-up of men’s singles final of Malaysia Masters

In Badminton, India’s Kidambi Srikanth finished as the runner-up at the Malaysia Masters tournament in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon. He lost to the World Number 4, Shi Feng Li of China in the Men’s Singles final, 21-11, 21-9.
Earlier, Srikanth, the 2021 World Championships silver medallist, secured his spot in the final with a straight-games victory over Tanaka, 21-18, 24-22.

4 ISSF Junior World Cup: Shambhavi clinches Gold in women’s 10 mt air rifle event

In Shooting, India’s Shambhavi Shravan Kshirsagar clinched gold medal in the women’s 10 meter air rifle event at the ISSF Junior World Cup 2025 in Suhl, Germany last night. Moreover, another Indian Ojasvi Thakur bagged silver medal in the same event. Kshirsagar’s win was more resounding as she held the lead from the very beginning despite a solid challenge from her teammate Ojasvi Thakur. The pair had started well alongside Li Shijia of China, with Carlotta Salafia of Italy and Olympic silver medallist Huang Yuting of China close behind.

With this, India has jumped to the top of the points table with a total of 8 medals including 2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Earlier in the day, Naraen Pranav Vanitha Suresh set the ball rolling by winning a bronze in the men’s 10 meter air rifle event before Mukesh Nelavalli matched the colour of his medal in the men’s 25 meter rapid fire pistol event.

5 Djokovic clinches his 100th career singles title at Geneva Open

Novak Djokovic made more tennis history by winning a 100th career singles title on Saturday (May 24, 2025) and his first in a city that is special to his family.

Djokovic finally reached his century after rallying to beat Hubert Hurkacz 5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2) in more than three hours in the Geneva Open final. He lost his two previous finals since his 99th title win nine months ago at the Paris Olympics at Roland-Garros.

He joins tennis greats Jimmy Connors, who has a record 109 titles, and Roger Federer on 103 as the only men with a century of tournament wins in the Open era.

Japanese director Hayakawa Chie’s film Renoir, starring Suzuki Yui, was also nominated but did not win the top prize.

9 Rising North East Investors Summit Attracts Rs 4 Lakh Crore Investment Proposals

The Rising North East Investors Summit 2025, which was held in New Delhi, attracted investment proposals worth over 4 Lakh Crore rupees. Delegations from over 80 countries, from Japan to Europe to ASEAN nations, participated in the two-day summit, which culminated yesterday.

10 Qatar Announces Record USD 36.5 Million Prize Fund For 2025 FIFA Arab Cup

Qatar’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup announced on Thursday that the record prize fund will exceed USD 36.5 million.

The competition, involving senior men’s national teams from the 22-member Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA) representing both Asia and Africa, is scheduled to occur from 1 to 18 December.

Current senior men’s national team head coach Manolo Marquez had also performed the dual role last season as he also guided FC Goa.

“Moosa will take charge of the team on June 1, 2025, when they begin their camp in Kolkata, with the long-term aim of preparing the Blue Colts for the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi and Nagoya, in Japan, in line with the plans laid out to the federation by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports," the AIFF said in a release.
