2 BSE’s India INX’s daily turnover crosses an all-time high

The India International Exchange (IFSC) (India INX), India’s first international exchange based in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) has achieved a major milestone on May 16, 2018 when the daily trading turnover of its Derivatives segment crossed approx. Rs 3,600 crore ($530.59 million).

India INX also achieved an all-time high monthly Average Daily Volume (ADV) of 24,312 contracts (lots) during April 2018, an increase of over 18 times from April 2017 (1,305 lots).

The acting governor of Manipur Jagdish Mukhi administered the oath of office to Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar at Raj Bhavan here, deputy secretary of governor's secretariat S Pritamkumar Singh told PTI.

6 HCs not to entertain pleas on RBI circular on virtual currencies: SC

New Delhi, May 17 (PTI) The Supreme Court today barred all high courts from entertaining any plea relating to an RBI circular prohibiting dealings in virtual currencies like the Bitcoin.

The apex court, which was hearing pleas seeking direction to the Centre to take emergent steps to restrain the sale and purchase of illegal crypto currencies or virtual currency like Bitcoins, also sought the assistance of Attorney General K K Venugopal in the matter.

Crypto currencies are "a stateless digital currency" in which encryption techniques are used for trading. These 'currencies' operate independently of a central bank like the RBI, "rendering it immune from government interference."

7 Artist Uttam Pacharne appointed Lalit Kala Akademi chairman

NEW DELHI: Artist and sculptor Uttam Pacharne was appointed the chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi today, the Culture Ministry said today.

Currently, he is member of the advisory committee, Kala Academy, Goa and member of advisory committee, P L Deshpande State Lalit Kala Academy and director, Janseva Sahakari Bank, Borivali.

He is the recipient of National Lalit Kala Award 1985, Maharashtra Gaurav Puraska 1985 from Government of Maharashtra, Junior National Award 1986 and Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar 2017 from Prafulla Dahanukar Foundation.

8 Suresh Prabhu Launched Intellectual Property Mascot – IP Nani
  • The Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Suresh Prabhu launched the Intellectual Property (IP) mascot – IP Nani – at the conference on National Intellectual Property Rights Policy in New Delhi today. An anti-piracy video featuring Mr. Amitabh Bachchan was also launched by the Minister at the event.

    Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that protection of Intellectual Property Rights is critical for building a knowledge based society. Minister further said that mere legal provisions are not sufficient for protection of Intellectual Property Rights but their strict implementation is equally required. Piracy is a serious crime which should not go unpunished. Minister also called for creating awareness against stealing Intellectual Property Rights and stressed on the need for participation of society in the effort.
