4 New technique simplifies cervical cancer screening

Chennai: Approximately 1.32 lakh new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed and 74,000 deaths occur annually in India which accounts 1/3rd of the global cervical cancer deaths, says a report.

According to experts, the alarming numbers indicate lack of high precision technology to screen cervical cancer during the early stage. To bridge the technological barrier, BD Life Sciences-Diagnostic Systems launched BD SurePathTM Direct to Slide.

"There's a stark difference between screening and diagnosis of cervical cancer. If screened during the pre-cancerous stage, cervical cancer can be treated without any traces," said Dr A Tamilselvi, consultant urogynaecologist, and obstetrician, Madras Medical College, at a press meet at Vijaya Health Centre here on Wednesday.

The BD SurePathTM Direct to Slide is a liquid-based cytology (LBC) technique that is used to effectively screen cervical cancer during the pre-cancerous stage.

OTTAWA, Canada – Canada hit back at the United States on Friday, June 29, with retaliatory tariffs on American summertime essentials including Florida orange juice, ketchup and Kentucky bourbon in its opening salvo in a trade war with President Donald Trump.

As temperatures and tensions increase, the measures targeting Can$16.6 billion (US$12.6 billion) in US steel, aluminum and consumer goods will take effect on Sunday, when Canadians celebrate a national holiday and just days before Americans celebrate Independence Day amid a heatwave expected in both countries.

The tit-for-tat duties are a response to the punishing US steel and aluminum tariffs imposed at the start of June. Ottawa also unveiled Can$2 billion (US$1.5 billion) in aid for the two sectors and their 33,500 workers.

10 FACEBOOK, GOOGLE, MICROSOFT ACCUSED OF VIOLATING GDPR LAWS WITH UNETHICAL POLICIES

Facebook, Google and Microsoft have been accused of failing the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Apparently, the platforms have been using “dark patterns” in order to manipulate users into accepting privacy policies they don’t necessarily wish to agree with.

According to the Norwegian Consumer Council (NCC), Facebook, Google and to some extent Microsoft, are running consumers out of privacy-friendly options on their services in an "unethical" way.

In a recently released 44-page report, NCC explains that these dark patterns include "privacy intrusive default settings, misleading wording, giving users an illusion of control, hiding away privacy-friendly choices, take-it-or-leave-it choices, and choice architectures where choosing the privacy-friendly option requires more effort for the users".
