Health Ministry to roll out prog to combat hepatitis |
- The Health Ministry has decided to roll out an initiative for prevention and control of viral hepatitis to address aspects such as surveillance, awareness generation, safe blood and injection safety to combat the disease.
- Under the initiative, the ministry has decided to establish a state coordination unit under the state NHM for efficient rollout of the programme in 26 large and four small states, a senior Health Ministry official said.

Saudi Arabia's first cinema in over 35 years opens with Black Panther |
- Saudi Arabia has unveiled its first cinema in over 35 years with a private screening of the blockbuster Black Panther.The invitation-only gala event in a converted Riyadh concert hall on Wednesday was the first in a series of test screenings after a ban on cinemas was lifted last year. US giant AMC has been granted the first licence to operate movie theatres.
- The AMC chief executive, Adam Aron, said ticket sales will start on Thursday for the first public shows on Friday, but local authorities indicated the test screenings could last for days. Officials earlier said movie theatres are expected to open to the public in May.

FICCI appoints Dilip Chenoy as Director General |
- Industry Chamber FICCI today said it has appointed Dilip Chenoy as its Director General. “Chenoy had been the Managing Director and CEO of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Director General (DG) of SIAM and Deputy DG of CII,” FICCI said in a statement.
- He had resigned from NSDC in late 2015 amid reports that the government was unhappy with the functioning of the skills development body. He was appointed by the previous Congress-led UPA government.

Indonesia demands more answers from Facebook on data misuse |
- JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesia has given Facebook a week to provide more information on how personal data of about one million of its citizens was misused and on the steps the company is taking to prevent such breaches, the country’s communications ministry said.
- More than 115 million Indonesians use Facebook and authorities in the Southeast Asian country have been pressing the firm to explain how personal data was harvested by political consultancy Cambridge Analytica via a personality quiz.

Commonwealth leaders’ summit opens in London |
- The 25th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting kicked off in London on Wednesday, as Britain, the current chair, sought to position the community as a route for tackling a number of global challenges, from climate change to protectionism, based on “equal” voices from across the group.
- “It’s a meeting that takes place at a time of significant global challenges. The rules-based international system, which has consistently delivered both prosperity and peace, faces threats in many forms and on many fronts,” Prime Minister Theresa May said during the opening of the first of three executive sessions that took place on Thursday, ahead of the leaders’ “retreat” at Windsor on Friday.

19 crore Indian adults don’t have bank account: World Bank |
- India has 19 crore adults without a bank account despite the success of the ambitious Jan Dhan Yojana, making it the world’s second largest unbanked population after that of China, the World Bank said on Thursday.
- Besides, almost half of the bank accounts remained inactive in the past year, the multilateral financial institution said in a report, even as it lauded the Indian government’s financial inclusion scheme, the Jan Dhan Yojana, for bringing in additional 31 crore Indians into formal banking system by March 2018. It also said the country’s adult population with a bank account has more than doubled to 80% since 2011.
