Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore at their statues in Buenos Aires yesterday. In a social media post, Mr Modi said, Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless vision and noble ideals will always guide humanity.

He said, all over the world, the thoughts of Bapu reverberate. The Prime Minister said, the thoughts give strength and hope to millions. He said, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, his Government reiterate its commitment to build a just and compassionate world.

In a social media post, Mr Modi said, Gurudev Tagore had visited Argentina in 1924 and had left a lasting impression on the minds of many people in this nation, especially scholars and students. He said, We in India take immense pride in the contributions of Gurudev Tagore to the nation’s history and culture. The Prime Minister said, Gurudev Tagore’s emphasis on learning and education is also very motivating.

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, today inaugurated the state-of-the-art Phenome India ‘National Biobank’ at the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in New Delhi.

The Ministry of Science and Technology, in a statement, said that the Biobank will serve as the backbone of a nationwide cohort study, collecting comprehensive genomic, lifestyle, and clinical data from 10 thousand individuals across the country.

It added that the Biobank captures the country’s unique diversity-across geography, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds. The statement further mentioned that the researchers believe that the initiative will aid early diagnosis, improve therapeutic targeting, and bolster the fight against complex diseases such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular ailments, and rare genetic disorders.

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has announced that superstar Aamir Khan will be the chief guest for the 16th edition of the film gala.

The festival, which is scheduled from August 14 to 24, will include a special retrospective to celebrate Aamir's extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema.

There will also be a spotlight event surrounding Aamir Khan's latest release Sitaare Zameen Par, which features the actor as a basketball coach who mentors a team of neurodivergent adults for community service.

Deepika Padukone has etched her name in history as the first Indian actress to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The announcement was made during a live press conference at Ovation Hollywood on Wednesday, where Deepika's name was revealed as part of the prestigious Class of 2026.

She joins a select group of stars, including Emily Blunt, Timothee Chalamet, Rami Malek, and Stanley Tucci, among others.

The first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival will be held at Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake from the 21st of August. This was announced by the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya. The three-day water sports festival will see five sports: kayaking and canoeing, rowing, water skiing, shikara race and dragon boat. The open-age competition is expected to see participation of more than 400 athletes from the 36 States and Union Territories. He said that the Khelo India Water Sports Festival is another proof of the government’s commitment to broad-based sports and creating more opportunities for athletes to express themselves at the national level. The Minister said India has a decent standing in water sports in Asia. The water sports festival in Dal Lake will help expose emerging talent and prepare them for international events.

The third edition of the UP International Trade Show (UPITS-2025) will be held from September 25 to 29 at the India Expo Centre and Mart, Greater Noida.

The Australian government has confirmed it will contribute A$3.435 billion ($2.25 billion) towards the A$7.1 billion cost of building the venues for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, clearing the way for the start of construction.

Queensland taxpayers and private finance will provide the balance of the money for the 17 new and upgraded venues for the Summer Games under the funding deal announced by state and federal governments on Thursday.

“The Sydney 2000 Games left an incredible legacy and many Australians have memories that have lasted for decades,” Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King said in a statement.

“We are ready to deliver a Brisbane 2032 games that will leave the same incredible legacy for Queensland.

Gujarat has become the third state in the country to record more than one crore registered stock market investors, according to the latest data released by the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

In a statement, the NSE said that Gujarat has joined Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh in crossing the one-crore mark in investor registrations. Together, these three states now account for 36 per cent of the total investor base in India.

As per NSE data, the total number of registered investors in the country stood at nearly 11.5 crore as of May 2025. The month of May alone witnessed the addition of over 11 lakh new investors, registering a 9 per cent month-on-month growth. This comes after four consecutive months of decline in new registrations.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) welcomes the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) advisory issued on June 30, directing all Scheduled Commercial Banks, Small Finance Banks, Payments Banks and Co-operative Banks to integrate the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) developed by DoT into their systems.

This major step is expected to strengthen efforts to curb cyber-enabled financial frauds and boost collaboration between key agencies to protect citizens in the expanding digital economy. The integration will automate data exchange between banks and DoT’s Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) through secure API-based systems, allowing for real-time fraud risk checks and continuous updates.
