1 BJP leader Pema Khandu to be sworn-in Arunachal CM

In Arunachal Pradesh, the first BJP government in the state with absolute majority will take oath today.

BJP had won an impressive 41 seats in the 60-seat house in the Assembly elections creating history.

Pema Khandu will be sworn-in for the second term as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh today.  

In the swearing-in ceremony organized at the Dorjee Khandu state convention hall in Itanagar, Mr. Khandu and his council of Ministers will take the oath of office and secrecy.

The oath will be administered by Governor Dr. BD Mishra. In the new Khandu cabinet this time couple of new faces are also expected to be included.

Earlier on Monday Mr. Khandu was elected unanimously as the leader of the BJP legislature party at it's meeting held in Itanagar.

2 Naveen Patnaik to take oath as Odisha CM for 5th term

In Odisha, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and the Chief Minister-designate Naveen Patnaik will take oath as the chief minister of the state for the fifth time in a row today.

Along with him, a twenty-member council of ministers will also take oath in a swearing-in ceremony at the IDCO exhibition ground in Bhubaneswar at 10:30 AM.

Our correspondent reports that Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Patnaik and his council of ministers.

Naveen Patnaik’s new ministry is a mix of experienced and newly-elected legislatures.

Out of the 11 cabinet and nine state rank ministers, ten new legislators have been included this time in the council of ministers. Six are among the legislators who retained their ministerial berths.

3 Maldives Ex-Leader Mohamed Nasheed Tipped As New Speaker

The former Maldives president Mohamed Nasheed has been nominated as the country's parliamentary speaker and is set to be sworn in Tuesday, a party official said.

Nasheed was unanimously chosen to head the People's Majlis, or the parliament, by his Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) which won a near three quarter majority in the 87-member assembly in April.

"He is unanimously chosen as the Speaker," a party official told AFP. "He will be sworn in at the inaugural session of the new parliament elected at the historic April vote."

Nasheed -- who until six months ago was still in exile -- has vowed to use his party's thumping mandate to usher in a new era of stability and democracy in the Maldives.

The MDP's closest rivals, the Jamhooree Party and Progressive Party of the Maldives, both won five seats. Two minor parties and independents secured 12 seats among them.

4 ISSF World Cup: Saurabh Chaudhary wins 10m Air Pistol gold; beats own World record

In ISSF shooting World Cup, in Munich Germany, India's  Saurabh Chaudhary has won 10m Air Pistol Gold beating his own World Record.

The 17-year old Chaudhary scored 246.3 bettering his previous best of 245 points that was set in New Delhi World Cup Shooting in February this year.

Chaudhury has already secured a berth for the Tokyo Olympics. This is India's second Gold in the championship.

5 V D Savarkar's birth anniversary being celebrated today

Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's birth anniversary is being celebrated today.

Born on this day in 1883 near Nasik in Maharashtra, Savarkar was popularly called Veer Savarkar.

He was a revolutionary who fought against the British Government. On the occasion, a function to pay floral tributes to him will be held in the Central Hall of Parliament House today.

Prime Minister paid tributes to V D Savarkar on his Jayanti.

In a tweet, Mr Modi said Veer Savarkar epitomises courage, patriotism and unflinching commitment to a strong India and he inspired many people to devote themselves towards nation building.

BJP President Amit Shah also paid tributes to V D Savarkar.

6 ISSF World Cup: Rahi Sarnobat wins gold in Munich, books Olympic quota

India's Rahi Sarnobat on Monday won the gold in 25m pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Munich. The 28-year-old in the process also sealed a quota place for India in the event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Rahi's score of 37 helped her pip Ukraine's Olena Kostevych, who was champion at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Bulgaria's Anatoanea Boneva won the bronze.

Manu Bhaker, who was also competing in the final, finished fifth with a score of 21 following a pistol malfunction.

7 Severe heat wave conditions engulf Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha

Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha are in the grip of a severe heatwave and the temperature has crossed 40 degrees Celsius at many places.

According to the MeT Department, Ramagundam in Telangana recorded 47.2 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature of the season.

It has issued a warning that the heat wave was likely to prevail in isolated places of the southern state till Friday.

In Odisha, the MeT Department has warned that heat wave conditions will persist particularly in the western region of the state for at least next two days.

In the national capital Delhi, the mercury is likely to touch the 43-degree mark today.

8 BIMSTEC leaders invited to PM designate Modi’s oath-taking ceremony

India has invited the leaders of the BIMSTEC Member States for the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday evening.

Ministry of External Affairs, MEA said that invitations have also been sent to the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov who is the current Chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, the Chief Guest at this year's Pravasi Bhartiya Divas.

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in response to a media query, this is in line with the Government's focus on its 'Neighbourhood First' policy.

The BIMSTEC, or the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation, member states are: Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan including India.

9 Narendra Modi to be sworn in as Prime Minister for second term on May 30

Narendra Modi will be sworn in as the Prime Minister for the second time at 7 p.m. on May 30 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, an official release said on Sunday evening. President Ram Nath Kovind will administer the oath, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué said.

Mr. Modi will be sworn in a week after he returned to power in a thumping victory. The counting of votes polled in the seven-phase elections to the 17th Lok Sabha took place on Thursday.

“The ceremony will be similar to the one that took place in 2014,” an official source said.

“The President (Ram Nath Kovind) will administer the Oath of Office and Secrecy to the Prime Minister and other members of Union Council of Ministers on 30.05.2019 at 07.00 p.m. at Rashtrapati Bhavan,” the communiqué added.

10 Veeru Devgan, Ajay Devgn’s Father and Stunt Director, Passes Away

Veeru Devgan, one of the most celebrated action and stunts directors in Bollywood, has passed away in Mumbai. He choreographed action scenes in more than 80 films. The father of Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, Veeru also directed a film with Ajay in the lead, Hindustan Ki Kasam. His other son Anil Devgan is a director.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Monday: Veeru Devgan passed away this morning [27 May 2019]... Father of Ajay Devgn... Veeru ji was an accomplished action director... Also directed #HindustanKiKasam, starring son Ajay with Amitabh Bachchan... Funeral will be held today at 6 pm... Heartfelt condolences to Devgn family (sic)."
