1 Telangana, Andhra Pradesh CMs ask officials to make strategy to divert Godavari water into Srisailam project on Krishna River

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy have resolved to work together and to provide water to every nook and corner of both the states for agriculture, industrial and drinking purposes. 

They asked officials to prepare strategies to divert water from River Godavari to Srisailam Project, on Krishna River. They asked them to submit report by July 15th. 

Both the Chief Ministers held a high level meeting in Hyderabad yesterday to resolve all pending issues amicably across the table. The meeting will continue today.

2 PM Modi outlines his 5 I vision in G-20 meet at Osaka to maximize digital technology for social benefit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has outlined his 5 I vision to maximize digital technology for social benefit. In his intervention at the G-20 summit on digital economy and artificial intelligence (AI) at Osaka yesterday, he put thrust on inclusiveness, indigenization, innovation, investment and infrastructure and international cooperation. 

During his meeting with BRICS leaders, Mr Modi said fast changing technologies like digitalization and climate change pose a challenge to the current as well as future generations. Before the leaders of the G-20 Prime Minister emphatically put his point that development is worthwhile only when it reduces inequality and contributes in empowerment.

3 Virat Kohli becomes fastest batsman to score 20,000 runs

India captain Virat Kohli today became the fastest batsman to reach 20,000 international runs, eclipsing batting greats Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara.

Kohli reached the milestone in only his 417th international innings. Prior to today's match, Kohli was 37 runs short of the milestone and reached the feat with a single off in the 25th over of the India innings.  

Kohli, thus, became the 12th batsman and third Indian after Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to reach 20,000 international runs.

4 Indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II test fired successfully

India successfully test-fired indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II as part of a user trial by the Army from a test range off the Odisha coast.

The trial of the surface-to-surface missile, which has a strike range of 350 km, was carried out from a mobile launcher from Launch Complex-III of the Integrated Test Range, ITR at Chandipur.

The missile is capable of carrying 500 to 1000 kg of warheads and is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines.

Prithvi-II was also successfully test-fired on 21st February, last year from the ITR at Chandipur.

5 G-20 summit begins today in Osaka

G20 Summit begins in Osaka, Japan today. The theme of the summit is Human-centred future society.

Several state heads including Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in the two-day summit.

19 countries, the European Union and several special invitees are participating at the Osaka Summit which will see discussions on Global Economy- Trade & Investment, Innovation in Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence, Addressing Inequalities, Realizing an Inclusive & Sustainable World and Climate Change Energy and Environment in four different sessions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a trilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump and Japanese premier Shinzo Abe in Osaka ahead of the formal opening of the G-20 Summit.

6 IOA and FIH President Narinder Batra Elected IOC Member

Indian Olympic Association president Narinder Batra was on June 26, elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee.

Batra was elected to the prestigious seat during the IOC Session in Laussane. He secured 58 votes out of 62 while four voted against him.

His election is linked to his function in a National Olympic Committee -- that is president of IOA.

Batra now has a rare distinction of becoming a member of the IOC, while heading a National Olympic Committee as well as an international federation. He is the first Indian to have this distinction.

7 Police station in Satara tops SMART survey

Rahimatpur police station in Satara district in western Maharashtra has emerged as the State topper in a survey based on the ‘SMART’ policing concept announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr. Modi had first called for making the police force ‘SMART’ — strict and sensitive, modern and mobile, alert and accountable, reliable and responsive, techno-savvy and trained — while addressing the 49th annual conference of Directors-General and Inspectors-General of Police in Guwahati in 2014.

The Quality Council of India (QCI), which executed the survey, assessed 87 shortlisted police stations across the country on a number of parameters like performance in controlling crime, infrastructure of the police building, mess and optimal use of technology, and citizen feedback.

8 Veteran actor, director Vijaya Nirmala passes away

Veteran South Indian film actor and director Vijaya Nirmala passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad on June 26 night.

She is survived by her husband and hero of yesteryears Krishna. She was 73.

Nirmala, born in Tamil Nadu, made her debut at the age of seven as a child artiste in a Tamil movie Machcha Rekhai (1950).

She entered the Telugu film industry through the film Rangula Ratnam and acted in over 200 films in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.

Though she began her career as an actor, later she took many roles in her career as producer and director.

In 2002, she entered the Guinness Book of Records as the female director of the most number of films. In 2008, she received the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award for her contribution to Telugu cinema.

9 India will go by its national interest: Jaishankar to Pompeo

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today conveyed to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that India will go by its national interest while dealing with other countries, including with sanctions-hit Russia. 

New Delhi is procuring S-400 missile defence system from Russia. The two had an extensive bilateral meeting this afternoon in New Delhi.  

Replying to a media query on the issue of sanctions under the US' Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act which may also impact India's procurement of the S400 system from Moscow, Dr Jaishankar said India has relationships with several countries. 

In a joint press interaction, Mr Pompeo said India is an important partner of the US and that the bilateral ties are reaching new heights.

10 PM Modi reaches Osaka for G20 Summit; to hold talks with Shinzo Abe

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the Japanese city of Osaka this morning to attend the G20 Summit which will be held tomorrow and the day after. 

On the sidelines of the summit, Mr Modi will meet with the leaders of major partner countries. The Prime Minister will hold talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe this morning, while he is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump tomorrow and discuss important issues of bilateral and global importance.

In his departure statement, Mr Modi said he is looking forward to discussing with other global leaders major challenges and opportunities faced by the world. 

The Prime Minister said, G20 summit will also be a platform for sharing India's strong developmental experience of the last five years, which provided the basis for a resounding mandate to the government by the people of the country to continue on the path to progress and stability. Mr Modi added that the summit will be an important stepping stone for India towards hosting the G-20 Summit in 2022, when the country will usher in a New India in the 75th Anniversary of the Independence.
