Atiqa Mir becomes first female racer ever to win race at Rotax Challenge International Trophy
Atiqa Mir, the nine-year-old racing sensation of Indian-origin from Srinagar, created history at the famous and prestigious Le Mans Kart International Circuit by becoming the first female racer in the world to win a race in the RMCIT - Rotax Challenge International Trophy on Sunday.
She achieved this by winning race two in the heats of the Micro Max category. The RMCIT-Rotax Max Challenge International Trophy is one of the most prestigious international race meets which attracts the best kart drivers worldwide, including several current and past winners and world champions.
Bhambri-Olivetti pair wins Swiss Open doubles title
Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti came from behind to defeat the all-French duo of Fabrice Martin and Ugo Humbert to win the Swiss Open, an ATP 250 event in Gstaad, on Sunday.
Bhambri and Olivetti, seeded third, beat Martin and Humbert 3-6, 6-3, [10-6] in the summit clash which lasted an hour and six minutes.
The 32-year-old Bhambri clinched his second doubles title this season with Olivetti and overall third of his career. He won his maiden ATP title at the 2023 Mallorca Championships with Lloyd Harris. He won his second title at the BMW Open in April this year with Olivetti.
Nigerian Artist Seeks World Record For Largest Drawing
Nigerian artist Fola David is seeking the Guinness record for the largest drawing by an individual after spending six days on his piece in a stadium in, the commercial capital Lagos.
David, also a medical doctor, said his 1,050 square-metre “Unity in Diversity” artwork, an image of two giant hands holding Nigeria’s map, was meant to showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage.
“Most people want to belong to a particular place and then they create problems and fight against other cultures and all that, instead of learning about them, embracing them, and loving each one of them,” David said.
The project was a long-held dream for David, who first applied to attempt the record in 2015 but could not embark on it. After applying multiple times and receiving approval from Guinness World Records, he finally brought his vision to life.
Small communities get Meghalaya OTT platform to tell their stories
The Manns number about 2,000 and the Hajongs have some 42,000 members. They are two of the five minor communities clubbed together as ‘unrepresented tribes’ for nomination in Meghalaya’s autonomous tribal councils.
The stories that such communities and the three principal matrilineal communities – Garo, Khasi, and Pnar (Jaintia) – may have to tell was one of the reasons why Meghalaya launched State-owned Hello Meghalaya, an OTT platform primarily for regional languages with a limited reach or small market, on July 11.
It is the second such State-owned platform for creative content creators after CSpace was launched by the Kerala government in March.

NITI Aayog and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) today signed a Statement of Intent in New Delhi for building joint programs towards Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property (IP) for countries in the Global South.
As the Chief Guest at the event, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the partnership between NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission and WIPO is pathbreaking and will bring India’s best innovation models to countries following similar development trajectories. He added that both will work to enhance understanding and awareness about Intellectual Property Rights from the school level to further inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
KVS Manian appointed as MD & CEO of Federal Bank for three years
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday approved the appointment of Krishnan Venkat Subramanian as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Bank.
In an exchange filing Federal Bank said, "We wish to inform you that, based on our application made to the Reserve Bank of India (“RBI”) on May 06, 2024, for its approval for the new Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, the RBI has, vide its letter dated July 22, 2024, approved the appointment of Krishnan Venkat Subramanian as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of the Bank under Section 35B of the Banking Regulation Act, 2013, for a period of 3 (three) years, with effect from September 23, 2024, after the expiry of the term of the current Managing Director & CEO on September 22, 2024".
Krishnan Venkat Subramanian was the Joint Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited till April 30, 2024, spearheading Corporate, Banking, Commercial banking, Private Banking, and Asset Reconstruction businesses and was responsible for building a high-quality integrated, and profitable franchise across these businesses. He has also been instrumental in upgrading the technology in these businesses and in building strong transaction banking capabilities. He also oversees the Investment
banking and Institutional Equities business. The Investment Banking, Institutional Equities, and Private Banking businesses continue to maintain and improve their leadership positions in the industry.
ISRO conducts experimental flight of Air Breathing Propulsion System
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully carried out the second experimental flight for the demonstration of Air Breathing Propulsion Technology.
The second experimental flight for the demonstration of Air Breathing Propulsion Technology was carried out at 7 a.m. on July 22. The propulsion systems were symmetrically mounted on either side of a RH-560 Sounding Rocket and launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
RH-560 is a two-stage, solid motor based sub-orbital rocket that is designed to be utilised as a cost-effective flying test bed for the demonstration of advanced technologies. It is the heaviest sounding rocket in the ISRO’s family of sounding rockets, and is launched from Sriharikota.
Drone Destination and NSIC partner to launch advanced drone training programmes

This collaborative effort aims to provide comprehensive training in drone technology, encompassing repairs and maintenance, data processing and analysis, remote pilot training, and the emerging sport of drone soccer.
The centre will prioritise skill development, employment generation, and the empowerment of the drone ecosystem in India. By focusing on areas such as digital agriculture, survey and mapping, mining, asset inspection, surveillance and monitoring, and disaster management, the partnership is set to address the growing and diversified demands for skilled manpower in the drone sector.

Paes, Amritraj formally inducted into International Tennis Hall of Fame
It was India day in New England as Indian tennis stars Leander Paes and Vijay Amritraj were formally inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame as its 265th and 267th members. Joining them was veteran tennis journalist Richard Evans, a chronicler of 200 Majors, and the biographer of Amritraj.
Welcoming them to the illustrious club was many of the game’s greatest and fellow Hall of Famers; including 18 Grand Slam winner Christ Evert, her greatest rival and friend Martina Navratilova, Andre Agassi, Stan Smith, and WTA founding member Rosie Casals.

Airbus Partners With Tata To Introduce India’s First H125 Helicopter by 2026
In a major boost to India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, global aerospace giant Airbus announced plans to set up the Final Assembly Line (FAL) for H-125 helicopters in partnership with Tata by the coming winter. Olivier Michalon, Airbus Executive Vice President of Global Business, stated that the company has identified eight potential sites and will soon finalize the location for the final assembly line.
"We will begin setting up the final assembly line before winter starts in India," Michalon said during a briefing. He emphasized that India represents a significant market for both aircraft and the growing sector of commercial helicopters. "India is the market of the future for helicopters. This is our analysis and our ambition—to be part of this transformation," he added.
