Commonwealth Games 2018: Neeraj Chopra collects first CWG javelin gold for India with season's best throw

  • Gold Coast, Australia: Neeraj Chopra on Saturday became the first Indian javelin thrower to claim a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games (CWG), pulling off a season's best effort of 86.47m in the final at Gold Coast.

  • The 20-year-old former junior world champion had made the final after achieving the qualifying mark in his very first throw on Friday, and he was leaps ahead of the field on Saturday with his very first throw


CWG 2018: MC Mary Kom becomes 1st Indian woman boxer to win gold

  • The legend of M C Mary Kom (48kg) grew larger as she added the Commonwealth Games gold to her packed medal cabinet, thrashing Northern Ireland's Kristina O'Hara in the final here on Saturday.

  • The 35-year-old five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medallist was competing in her debut Commonwealth Games, also perhaps her last, and made it a memorable one with yet another dominating performance to claim an unanimous verdict of 5-0.


Commonwealth Games 2018: 15-year-old Anish Bhanwala wins gold, creates history

  • Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala, aged 15, created history by becoming the country’s youngest ever gold medal winner in the Commonwealth Games.

  • Anish achieved the feat when he stormed his way into the gold medal with a Games record in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event at the Belmont Shooting Centre.

  • The Haryana boy shot down the CWG record in the final with a score of 30 including four series of 5 each.


CWG 2018: Tejaswini Sawant strikes gold, Anjum Moudgil bags silver as India dominate in shooting

  • Tejaswini Sawant on Friday added another gold medal to her decorated Commonwealth Games resume en route to shattering the games record in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions event while putting in the shade silver winner Anjum Moudgil's remarkable resilience.

  • Tejaswini held the lead from the first shot in the finals and broke the CWG record with 457.9.

CWG 2018: Gold for Sushil Kumar, Rahul Aware and silver for Babita Kumari as wrestlers dominate

  • This is Sushil’s third CWG gold following gold medals in the 66kg event in 2010 and 74kg event in 2014

  • This is the first CWG medal for Aware, 26, who in 2011 won gold at the Commonwealth Championships

  • Kiran outplayed Pariadhaven 10-0 to win bronze in the women's 76kg freestyle category


Bangladesh Ends Reservation in Govt Jobs as PM Sheikh Hasina Gives in to Protesting Students

  • Dhaka: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said she has decided to scrap the quota system in government services after thousands of students marched across the country in protest against a controversial policy of setting aside jobs for special groups.

  • In Dhaka, mobs of students blockaded major roads, bringing traffic to a standstill. Police were deployed to the Dhaka University where clashes in recent days left more than 100 students injured by tear gas and rubber bullets.


Govt. appoints panel to review CSR enforcement under Companies Act

NEW DELHI: The government has set up a 12-member panel to review the enforcement of CSR provisions under the companies law as well as look at having a centralised scrutiny and prosecution mechanism to deal with violations.

The latest move by the Corporate Affairs Ministry, which is implementing the Companies Act, comes little over four years after the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) norms came into force on April 1, 2014.

A committee on CSR to review “the functioning of CSR enforcement and to recommend a uniform approach for its enforcement” has been constituted, according to a communication from the ministry.



UAE approves plan for new equal pay law

  • The UAE Cabinet has approved the issuance of legislation to ensure equal pay for men and women working in the country.

  • According to state news agency WAM, the Law on Equal Wages and Salaries for Men and Women will ensure that women have equal opportunities as partners in the UAE’s development, and to further empower women to lead future national strategies and ambitious projects.


India, Morocco sign pact to promote mineral exploration

  •  India has inked a pact with Morocco under which focus would be laid on evaluation of potential mineral resources and promoting exploration and mining through participation of both public and private sector.

  • "After the bilateral discussions, an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) in the field of Mining and Geology for a period of 5 years was signed by both the countries," the mines ministry said in a statement.
