Microsoft And Indian School Of Business Partner To Set Up AI Digital Lab For Advancing The Skill In India

The Indian School of Business (ISB) and IT giant Microsoft India has partnered to build an AI (Artificial Intelligence) Digital Lab. With this creation, both organizations will be collaborating in research which will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to study issues that are relevant for business and public policy.

Additionally, the partnership will also offer an executive programme titled "Leading Business Transformation in the Age of AI" at the B-School's campus. The programme will equip business leaders with tools and strategies to transform their respective organizations to AI-driven organizations.

Professor Rajendra Srivastava, Dean, Indian School of Business and the Novartis Professor of Marketing Strategy and Innovation, said, “Business Schools are attempting to redefine management education by making it more future-ready and relevant for opportunities and challenges that businesses will face in the future. Transforming organizations guided by Artificial Intelligence and augmented by frameworks integrating analytics with human behavior and management issues will be an important imperative for business leaders.”

“Our collaboration with Microsoft India will enable us to use AI to understand new phenomena that are relevant for business as well as policy and subsequently disseminate the knowledge to business leaders who will need to transform their businesses through artificial intelligence to compete effectively,” he further stated.



Amazon India launches employment programme for ex-servicemen and their spouses

BENGALURU : Amazon India on Monday announced the launch of a Military Veterans Employment programme that it said will create hundreds of opportunities for military veterans and their spouses across Amazon India's Fulfillment Centres, Sort Centres and Delivery Centres in the country.

Amazon India is partnering with the Office of the Director General of Resettlement (DGR) and the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) to create continued work opportunities for military families across the country, it said in a statement.

Amazon relates to and respects the principles and work ethics of those who have served, and believes they have the ability to think big, invent and simplify on behalf of its customers, it was stated.



Indian Bank, Tata AIG General Insurance tie up

Indian Bank has joined hands with Tata AIG General Insurance to offer the latter’s diverse range of general insurance policies benefiting the bank’s customers by way of protection, wealth creation and savings. Tata AIG General Insurance will work with the bank for sales training, product support and ensuring smooth operational processes. The agreement was signed in the presence of Padmaja Chunduru, MD and CEO, Indian Bank and Saurabh Maini, senior vice president & business head – Key partnership Group, Tata AIG General Insurance, the bank said in a statement.



Komalika Bari becomes recurve cadet world champion; India wins 2 gold, 1 bronze

India's Komalika Bari became recurve cadet world champion at the World Archery Youth Championships in Madrid, Spain, today. She defeated higher-ranked Sonoda Waka of Japan 7-3 in the  final  and earn India's second gold on the final day of the  Championships. 
India also won a gold in the compound junior mixed pair event yesterday and a bronze in the compound junior men's team event on Friday. 

India concluded their campaign with two gold and one bronze medal in their last event. The 17-year-old Komalika is now India's second recurve cadet  world champion (under-18) after Deepika Kumari who won the title in 2009. 



India win first test against West Indies by huge margin of 318 runs

India beat West Indies by a massive 318-run margin in the first cricket Test at North Sound in Antigua last night. With this win, India have taken 1-0 lead in the 2-match series. Chasing a stiff target of 419 runs, West Indies were all out for just 100 in 26.5 overs in their second innings on the fourth day.

India seamer Jasprit Bumrah took five second-innings wickets for just seven runs. Earlier, India declared their second innings at 343 for seven, setting the West Indies a 419-run target to win the Test. Ajinkya Rahane scored 102 and adjuged Man of the Match.



PM Modi to address sessions on environment, climate & digital transformation at G7 Summit today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the G7 Summit in France today. Mr Modi will address sessions on environment, climate, oceans and digital transformation at the G7 Summit in Biarritz, France. 

Although India is not a member of the G7 group, Mr Modi will attend the G7 Summit as a special guest as he has been personally invited by French President Emmanuel Macron. External Affairs Ministry has said that the invitation is a reflection of the personal chemistry between the two leaders and also recognition of India as a major economic power. 

Prime Minister arrived in Biarritz from Manama yesterday after concluding his three-nation tour to France, the UAE and Bahrain. The countries which are part of the G7 include the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the US. 



First-ever World Youth Conference for Kindness held

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the first-ever World Youth Conference for Kindness organised by the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) at Vigyan Bhavan here on Friday.

The theme of the conference was ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: Gandhi for the Contemporary World: Celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.’ In attendance were Union Ministers, prominent artists, nobel laureates and over 1,000 youth representing 27 countries.

The conference was in commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi and aimed at providing youth with creative, effective methods of engaging and realising the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It sought inspiration from Gandhi’s championing of non-violence.



Russia launches 'floating Chernobyl' plant across Arctic

Russia on Friday launched a controversial floating nuclear reactor on a nearly 3,100-mile voyage across the Arctic Sea from the port of Murmansk.

Loaded with nuclear fuel, the Akademik Lomonosov with three tug vessels is set to reach the port of Pevek in 4 to 6 weeks. But the maiden voyage comes amid concerns from environmentalists that have only heightened after a recent botched missile test which led to a radiation spike in a town in the same northern region as Murmansk.

Lomonosov is part of a plan to bring electric power to one of Russia's most remote regions. The 144-meter (472 feet) long platform, painted in the colors of the Russian flag, is going to supply electricity to settlements and companies extracting hydrocarbons and precious stones in the Chukotka area.



India bags Bronze in World Archery Youth Championships

Trailing by one point till the penultimate end, the Indian trio made a spectacular recovery, shooting a flawless final end with two Xs (closer to centre) to defeat Colombia's Jagdeep Teji Singh Mejia, Gomez Zuluaga Felipe and Toro Vasquez Manuel 234-231. In the final, the Indians shot 60 out of 60 while the Colombians made 56 to lose the battle in the bronze play-off.

The compound junior mixed team of Raginee Markoo and Sukhbeer Singh also assured India of a second silver medal, beating their Iranian opponents Geesa Bybordy and Danial Heidarzadehdehkordi 154-151.

The Indian team will face Switzerland for a gold on Saturday.



NASA honours Rolling Stones by naming rock on Mars after band

The space agency shared the news on Twitter, revealing that the "Rolling Stones Rock" was a stone that was sent rolling after NASA's InSight lander touched down on the Mars' surface. "Hello '@RollingStones Rock'. Who could hang a name on you? Um... us! "When @NASAInsight touched down on the Red Planet, its engines sent a rock rolling across Mars' surface. We named it for the band," NASA tweeted along with an animated video describing the incident.

Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr also shared the news after he crashed the band's concert here. "Cross-pollinating science and a legendary rock band is always a good thing..." said Downey Jr at the concert. The popular band, which consists of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood, were delighted to hear the news. "What a wonderful way to celebrate the 'Stones No Filter' tour arriving in Pasadena. This is definitely a milestone in our long and eventful history. A huge thank you to everyone at NASA for making it happen," they said in a statement.
