Sunita Williams set to pilot Starliner spacecraft for her first trip to ISS

Following years of delays and numerous setbacks during test flights, Boeing's Starliner spacecraft is finally set to make its inaugural crew launch.

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, two of NASA's most seasoned astronauts, will be the pilots of the Crew Flight Test mission aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.

The two veteran astronauts will travel to and from the International Space Station, marking what could be a historic and long-awaited victory for the beleaguered Starliner programme.



Sarvadanand Barnwal (ISS) appointed as Director in Department of Land Resources

Sarvadanand Barnwal (ISS) has been selected for the appointment as Director in the Department of Land Resources on Friday. According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on April 26, Barnwal has been selected for the appointment under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) for a period of five years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Barnwal is an Indian Statistical Service (ISS) officer of 2010-batch. He was recommended for the Central deputation by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation.



China launches 3-member Shenzhou-18 crew to its Tiangong space station

A team of three astronauts, on Thursday, launched aboard a rocket as part of China's Shenzhou-18 mission, heading towards the Tiangong space station in low earth orbit, according to Chinese space authorities.

This marks the most recent mission in Beijing's space programme, which is working towards sending astronauts to the Moon by 2030.

The Shenzhou-18 spacecraft, also known as the "Divine vessel," along with its three passengers, launched atop a Long March-2F rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China at 8:59 pm.

The spacecraft carries mission commander Ye Guangfu (43), who previously served on the 2021 Shenzhou-13 mission, along with crewmates Li Cong (34) and Li Guangsu (36). Both Li Cong and Li Guangsu are former fighter pilots embarking on their inaugural spaceflight mission.



Gina Justus Wins 2024 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards For Middle East And North Africa

Gina Justus, a teacher at Our Own English High School, Sharjah Girls’ Branch, has been named the regional winner for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in the 2024 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards. Justus, originally from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has been working in the UAE since 2005 and was recognised for her outstanding mentorship and dedication to charity.This year’s competition saw a record-breaking number of nominations, with over 14,840 submissions from 141 countries. The Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards is a global competition that honors exceptional primary and secondary school teachers. Students, parents, and peers can nominate teachers who have made a significant impact on their educational journey.In its sixth year, the competition emphasizes the crucial role teachers serve in molding the lives of their students and equipping them for the global stage.The public will now vote to determine the overall winner of the 2024 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards, which will be announced on May 29th.



India Today Group's AI anchor Sana wins global media award

India Today Group's AI news anchor, Sana, has won the International News Media Association (INMA)'s 2024 Global Media Award for AI-led newsroom transformation.

India Today Group has been selected as the best in South Asia for 'AI-led newsroom transformation', and the company's human-collaborative AI anchor, Sana, won first place among national brands for the 'best use of AI in customer-facing products'.

“The 2024 Global Media Awards really highlighted how news media companies must think beyond the traditional to connect with their readers in this era of disruption and news avoidance. Unsurprisingly, this class of winning entries features some of the most innovative we’ve seen," executive director and CEO of INMA, Earl J Wilkinson, noted.



Manoj Kumar (IRS) appointed as CVO of JNPA

Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Manoj Kumar has been appointed as new Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Jawahar Lal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) recently.

According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on April 23, Kumar has been appointed as CVO of JNPA for an initial period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Kumar is IRS officer of 2003-batch. With his new assignment, Kumar will replace Vidyadhar A Malegaonkar (IRTS), who is presently serving as CVO of JNPA.



International Dance Day 2024

International Dance Day, also called World Dance Day, is a worldwide celebration that pays tribute to the art form of dance and promotes its various forms as a universal value. The day also aims to raise awareness about the inherent value of dance and empower the dance community to showcase their work to a wider audience.

The idea of International Dance Day was conceived by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), an essential partner of UNESCO in the area of performing arts. Every year, the committee selects a renowned choreographer or dancer to deliver a special message to the global dance community, highlighting the significance of dance and its ability to connect people worldwide.



SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting In Kazakhstan Endorses ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’

Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting held in Astana, Kazakhstan, on April 26. During the meeting, a protocol was signed by the Defence Ministers of all SCO Member States.

In the Joint Communiqué issued after the meeting, the SCO Defence Ministers agreed, among other initiatives, to develop the idea of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’, rooted in the ancient Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

At the gathering, the Defence Secretary reiterated India’s steadfast commitment toward maintaining peace, stability, and security in the SCO region. He emphasized the need to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism in all its forms for the prosperity and development of the SCO Member States.



India, Kuwait sign MoU for information sharing on sidelines of Investment Conference 2.0

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait organised the India-Kuwait Investment Conference 2.0 on Tuesday. The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to share information regarding technologies and innovation within the financial and regulatory ecosystem.

The conference was held with the support of the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), Union of Investment Companies (UIC) and Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

"The India-Kuwait Investment Conference 2.0 was organized by the Embassy with the support of IBPC, UIC and KCCI. The Managing Director of Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) was the Chief Guest. Senior-official led delegations from GiFT city, NIIF, InvestIndia and CII participated," the Indian Embassy in Kuwait posted on social media platform X.



Former wrestler Narsingh Yadav elected chairman of WFI’s seven-member athletes’ panel

Former Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Narsingh Pancham Yadav was elected chairman of the Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) Athletes’ Commission here on Wednesday, completing a process that was mandated by the sport’s world governing body.

A total of eight candidates were in the fray for the seven positions. The polls were conducted on ballot paper.

Ahead of the 2016 Olympics, the Games-bound Narsingh had grabbed headlines when two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, who missed the qualification event due to an injury, requested for a trial bout against him.
