Sachin Tendulkar to lead India in International Masters League

The highly anticipated International Masters League (IML) is all set to take the world by storm, bringing together legendary cricketers from six cricketing powerhouses, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, South Africa, and West Indies in a thrilling T20 franchise tournament.

The inaugural edition will run from November 17, to December 8. The DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will host the opening leg of four matches.

The tournament will kick off with a high-octane fixture between India and Sri Lanka on November 17, pitting Sachin Tendulkar against Kumar Sangakkara, a throwback to their legendary encounters of the past.



Madhya Pradesh: Ustad Allauddin Khan Festival to begin in Maihar

In Madhya Pradesh, Ustad Allauddin Khan Festival will start today in Maihar. This is the golden jubilee year of this music festival. During the three-day event, many well-known personalities of the country will perform at the festival.

Akashvani’s correspondent reports, that the three-day Ustad Allauddin Khan festival is being organized jointly by the Madhya Pradesh Culture Department, Ustad Allauddin Khan Music and Art Academy and Maihar District Administration till October 10.

Ustad Allauddin Khan was famous in the music world not only in the country but also around the world. He made tireless efforts to promote the music tradition in Madhya Pradesh and connect the new generation with music. Two exhibitions are also being organized on this occasion.

In the first exhibition named ‘Devi’, there will be a collection of miniature paintings based on 108 names of Goddesses, while under the title ‘Tantu’, an exhibition focusing on string instruments is being organized.



Bangladesh interim government announces 9-member constitution reform commission

Bangladesh's interim government has announced the formation of a nine-member commission to review and evaluate the country's constitution, and recommend necessary reforms.

Under the leadership of prominent Bangladeshi-American professor Ali Riaz, the Constitution Reform Commission will submit its report to the government within 90 days, the state-run BSS news agency reported.

The commission was formed to review and evaluate the existing constitution to establish a representative and effective democracy while empowering the people, it was announced on Monday.

It will prepare a report on recommendations for constitutional reform considering everyone's opinions, The Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported.



India to host World Pickleball Championship series in November

The All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) will host the prestigious World Pickleball Championship (WPC) Series for the first time in India. Scheduled to take place in Mumbai from November 12th to 17th, 2024, this major event will bring together top pickleball talent from around the world, following the successful Vietnam and Bali legs of the championship. Indian teams performed admirably in these earlier tournaments, securing Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.

Powered by the World Pickleball League (WPBL), the WPC Series in India will feature approximately 650 players from 6 to 7 countries, including Australia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Poland, and Singapore, among others. The tournament is expected to be a significant moment for Indian sports, drawing international attention and excitement from pickleball enthusiasts globally.



Monthly nutrition support for TB patients doubled to Rs 1000

The centre on Monday announced that the monthly nutrition support under Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana has been doubled from the existing Rs 5,00 to Rs 1000, for all TB patients during the period of treatment.

Making several key initiatives aimed at enhancing nutrition support for TB patients and their household contacts, Union Health Minister J P Nadda also said that an additional allocation of Rs 1,040 crore to the scheme has been approved as nutritional support for all TB patients.

India has set 2025 as its target year for TB elimination, five years ahead of the target set by SDG.



Ahmedabad University Launches The Climate Institute with a Focus on the Global South

For decades, global growth has been driven by fossil fuels, leading to climate change and environmental degradation. This challenge is particularly significant for the Global South, which must balance climate action with growth aspirations and development goals. High-quality research, innovative policies, cutting-edge technologies, and a well-educated workforce are some of the most important tools to address this challenge.

Ahmedabad University has launched The Climate Institute to address these challenges, focusing on three key aspects of research, education and impact. The Institute is developing India's first comprehensive Climate, Energy, and Environmental education programme, preparing future leaders to tackle global climate issues. In the realm of research, it is expanding its capacity by recruiting new faculty, graduate student and postdoctoral researchers, encouraging interdisciplinary exploration. The Institute's impact will be amplified by national and international partnerships that translate research into actionable policies while incubating and accelerating innovative approaches to address pressing environmental issues.



Asia's largest imaging Cherenkov telescope inaugurated in Ladakh

The Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) observatory, the largest imaging Cherenkov telescope in Asia, has been inaugurated at Hanle in Ladakh, giving a boost to scientific research.

Located at an altitude of 4,300 metres, it is also the highest of its kind telescope in the world, a statement said here on Tuesday.

It was inaugurated on October 4 by Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) secretary Ajit Kumar Mohanty.

The telescope has been indigenously built by the Mumbai-based Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) with support from the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) and other Indian industry partners.



RBI deputy governor Rajeshwar Rao gets second one-year extension

The Reserve Bank has said the government has re-appointed M Rajeshwar Rao as the deputy governor for a one-year term with effect from October 9. This is the second extension Rao has been given.

Rao is currently in charge of the departments of regulation, risk monitoring, communication, enforcement and legal.

The tenures of Governor Shaktikanta Das and another deputy governor Michael Patra are also scheduled to end over the next three months.

“The government re-appointed M Rajeshwar Rao as the deputy governor for a period of one year starting October 9 or until further orders,” the RBI said in a notification Monday.

The government order was issued late Friday.



Ajit Vinayak Gupte appointed India’s next envoy to Germany

Senior diplomat Ajit Vinayak Gupte has been appointed India’s next ambassador to Germany, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Monday.

He is currently India’s envoy in Egypt.

“Ajit Vinayak Gupte (IFS: 1991), presently Ambassador of India to Egypt, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Federal Republic of Germany. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly,” the MEA said in a statement.

The appointment comes ahead of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s scheduled visit to India later this month.



India to host Malabar 2024 Naval exercise with Australia, Japan

The Maritime Exercise Malabar 2024 is set to take place from October 8 to 18, beginning with the Harbour Phase in Visakhapatnam, followed by the Sea Phase. Hosted by India, this year’s exercise will see participation from Australia, Japan, and the United States.

Originally a bilateral drill between the US and Indian Navies in 1992, Exercise Malabar has since evolved into a key multilateral event aimed at improving interoperability, fostering mutual understanding, and addressing shared maritime challenges in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific regions.

The Indian Navy will deploy various platforms, including guided missile destroyers, frigates, submarines, and aircraft. Australia, the US, and Japan will also send warships, helicopters, and maritime patrol aircraft. Special Forces from all four nations will participate.
