ICC Announce Women’s T20 World Cup Schedule

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday announced the fixtures for the ninth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 taking place from 3 to 20 October in Bangladesh.

Ten teams will play 23 matches, over 18 action-packed days, at two venues in Bangladesh, the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka and the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, said ICC press release.

The schedule was unveiled at an event in Dhaka, attended by Mr. Nazmul Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board alongside Geoff Allardice, CEO of the ICC and the Captains of India and Bangladesh women’s team- Harmanpreet Kaur and Nigar Sultana respectively.



Indian Contingent Bags 43 Medals At ASBC Asian U-22 And Youth Boxing Championships

In boxing, the Indian contingent wrapped up their electrifying journey at the ASBC Asian U-22 and Youth Boxing Championships with a remarkable haul of 43 medals in Astana, Kazakhstan. This includes 12 gold, 14 silver, and 17 bronze medals from both categories. The Indian U-22 team finished with 21 medals, including seven gold, five silver, and nine bronze medals, yesterday, while the youth section bagged 22 medals, including five gold, nine silver, and eight bronze medals, on Monday. India finished with the second-highest medal count, only behind the hosts, Kazakhstan, who have won 48 medals.



Indian Coast Guard Partners With Jindal Steel & Power For Indigenous Marine Steel Supply

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 7 in New Delhi aimed at enhancing indigenous content in ship building. This partnership seeks to bolster the supply of indigenous marine-grade steel, vital for the nation’s maritime security.

The MoU highlights the pivotal role of public-private partnerships in addressing complex security challenges. It underscores the necessity of collaboration between government agencies and the private sector to strengthen national interests.

Outlined within the MoU are several key benefits aimed at ensuring quality, grades, and dimensions of the marine-grade steel. Additionally, designated steel plants have been earmarked for manufacturing the product, ensuring a timely supply to shipbuilding yards serving the ICG.



MEDITECH STACKATHON Launched To Boost India’s MedTech Industry

The Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers today kicked off the MEDITECH STACKATHON 2024 in New Delhi alongside Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) . This event aims to revolutionize India’s growing MedTech sector by thoroughly analyzing the value chain of selected medical devices. The goal is to tackle major challenges, promote local manufacturing, and lessen reliance on imports, ultimately establishing India as a global leader in medical technology.

The event highlighted India’s immense potential in the MedTech industry, projecting a 28% annual growth rate, with estimates suggesting it could reach a whopping USD 50 billion by 2030. Currently, India ranks as the 4th largest market for medical devices in Asia and among the top 20 globally. However, hefty imports, mainly from countries like the US, China, and Germany, are driving the surge.



CUSAT researchers discover new marine tardigrade species

Researchers from the Department of Marine Biology, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) have discovered a new species of marine tardigrade, colloquially known as water bears -- a phylum of eight-legged segmented micro-animals.

This microscopic creature has been named as Batillipes chandrayaani, a homage to the Chandrayaan-3, the first-ever successful lunar south pole landing mission hosted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 2023.

This newly described species was found in the intertidal beach sediments of Mandapam coast, Tamil Nadu.

The event was titled “The security environment in the Indo-Pacific region and the EU’s role as a security actor in partnership/cooperation with India”.



Sahitya Akademi award-winning Urdu litterateur Salam Bin Razzaq passes away at 83

Renowned Urdu litterateur and academician, Shaikh Abdussalam Abdurrazzaq, famous by his pseudonym Salam Bin Razzaq, passed away at his residence in Navi Mumbai after a prolonged illness, a family friend said here on Tuesday.

Razzaq was 83 and is survived by his wife, daughter, son, plus several grandchildren and great-grandkids.

The last rites were performed at the Marine Lines cemetery in Mumbai in the presence of a large number of family members, friends, and literary figures.



India Clinches 3 Gold, And 2 Bronze Medals At Asian Open Pickleball Championships In Vietnam

India clinched three gold and two bronze medals at the Asian Open Pickleball Championships in Vietnam yesterday. Sachin Pahwa and Priyanka Chabbra led India to its first gold medal, defeating Ruben Hellberg and Chitlada Hemasee 11-9, 5-11, 11-9, in the mixed doubles intermediate 35+ category final. While in the women’s doubles open category, the pair of Isha Lakhani and Pei Chuan Kao bagged the gold medal with a dominating 15-7, 15-3 win against Dang Kim Ngan and Tyak K.

In the men’s doubles, India’s Aniket Patel and Rohit Patil claimed the yellow metal despite losing the opening game. The duo defeated Nik Alessandro Isagan and Lester Ga 5-11, 11-6, and 11-8 in the final. In the men’s singles advance 35+ category, Vijay Menon defeated Yu Hsuan Cher to secure the bronze, while in the women’s singles intermediate 35+ event, Priyanka Chhabra defeated Marissa Phongsirikul, earning India another bronze medal.
