2 FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 unveils official fan-chosen mascot Son of Dreams
  • WUHAN, China, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Organizers of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup unveiled three possible final mascots here in the central Chinese city of Wuhan on Tuesday.

  • Organizers also announced that basketball fans would vote online for the winner.The mascot finalists are a Chinese dragon ( 'Son of Dream' ), a Siberian tiger ( 'Speed Tiger' ) and a lion ( 'Qiu Qiu' ). People can find out more about them and vote on WorldCup.basketball or FIBA.qq.com/FIBAWC until February 8.

3 FICCI appoints Dilip Chenoy as Director General
  • Industry Chamber FICCI today said it has appointed Dilip Chenoy as its Director General. “Chenoy had been the Managing Director and CEO of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Director General (DG) of SIAM and Deputy DG of CII,” FICCI said in a statement.

  • He had resigned from NSDC in late 2015 amid reports that the government was unhappy with the functioning of the skills development body. He was appointed by the previous Congress-led UPA government.

4 Indonesia demands more answers from Facebook on data misuse
  • JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesia has given Facebook a week to provide more information on how personal data of about one million of its citizens was misused and on the steps the company is taking to prevent such breaches, the country’s communications ministry said.

  • More than 115 million Indonesians use Facebook and authorities in the Southeast Asian country have been pressing the firm to explain how personal data was harvested by political consultancy Cambridge Analytica via a personality quiz.

8 19 crore Indian adults don’t have bank account: World Bank
  •  India has 19 crore adults without a bank account despite the success of the ambitious Jan Dhan Yojana, making it the world’s second largest unbanked population after that of China, the World Bank said on Thursday.

  • Besides, almost half of the bank accounts remained inactive in the past year, the multilateral financial institution said in a report, even as it lauded the Indian government’s financial inclusion scheme, the Jan Dhan Yojana, for bringing in additional 31 crore Indians into formal banking system by March 2018. It also said the country’s adult population with a bank account has more than doubled to 80% since 2011.
