Abhijeet Tomar superb century went in vain as Harshal Patel produced a game-changing spell with the old ball, guiding Hardyan to Vijay Hazare Trophy title in Rajkot on Saturday.

Chasing 288, Rajasthan were cruising at 201 for 4 with opener Abhijeet (106 off 129 balls) and Kunal Singh Rathore (79 off 65 balls) taking their side closer to the target.

But Harshal (3/47 in 9 overs) came up with a brilliant second spell and removed both the set batters along with Kukna Ajay Singh (8) to hand Haryana a 30-run win.

Rajasthan were eventually bowled out for 257 in 48 overs.

2 India's Akash missile engages four targets at once at 25km, a global first

India demonstrated the capability of the Akash missile system to engage four aerial targets simultaneously at a range of 25 kilometres, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said on Sunday.

It said India became the first country to have such a capability using a single firing unit.

"India became first country to demonstrate the capability of engagement of 04 aerial targets simultaneously at 25Km ranges by command guidance using single firing unit. The test was conducted by @IAF_MCC using Akash Weapon System," the DRDO said in a post on 'X'.

3 IIT Kanpur, Kotak launch ‘School of Sustainability’

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) and the Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited today announced the launch of Kotak School of Sustainability – India’s first fully integrated school of sustainability at IIT Kanpur.

This initiative has been taken with the thought that global warming poses a serious threat to our existence, manifesting in untimely natural calamities, pollution, and biodiversity loss. “Research indicates irreversible ‘Tipping Points’ with rapid, harmful climatic changes. 5 Air Force carries out successful trials of SAMAR air defence missile system

The Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out successful firing trials of its in-house designed and developed SAMAR air defence missile system during Astrashakti 2023 exercise at Suryalanka Air Force Station in Andhra Pradesh.

The air defence system SAMAR (Surface to Air Missile for Assured Retaliation), has been developed by a unit under IAF’s Maintenance Command.

The SAMAR system was part of the exercise for the first time, and it successfully achieved firing trial objectives in different engagement scenarios.

6 India, Oman trade ministers exhort officials to conclude talks for trade

Commerce ministers of India and Oman have asked their negotiators to conclude talks of the proposed free trade agreement at the earliest, an official statement said on Monday. Substantively, negotiations on the text of the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) have been largely completed.

On the sidelines of the state visit of the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tarik to India on December 16, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman Qais Bin Mohammed Al Yousef, held discussions on bilateral trade and investment relations between the two countries here."The leaders exhorted their respective negotiators to conclude discussions on the remaining issues paving way for early conclusion of India-Oman CEPA negotiations and signing of the agreement," the commerce ministry said.

7 Hyderabad ranked 1st in food adulteration cases: NCRB

Hyderabad has ranked first in the country for food adulteration cases, according to the data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Telangana stands second, closely followed by Andhra Pradesh.In 2022, a total of 291 cases of food adulteration were reported across 19 major cities in India.

Surprisingly, out of these cases, a staggering 246 were reported solely in Hyderabad, signalling a concerning trend in food safety within the city. The local police in Hyderabad of three Commissionerates — Rachakonda, Hyderabad and Cyberabad — have been actively involved in combating food adulteration cases and have made several significant seizures. The seized items include adulterated finger garlic paste, ice creams, and tea powder. The authorities are taking these cases seriously and have duly registered them for further investigation.

8 Union Minister Parshottam Rupala addresses inaugural session of Animal Health Conclave

Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Parshottam Rupala said that India must become a world leader in the field of animal husbandry with the help of population, resources, and opportunity. The Minister was addressing the inaugural session of the Animal Health Conclave in New Delhi today. Highlighting the problems faced by the animal health sector, Mr. Rupala said that government's aim is to reduce the waiting period for the vaccines for animals. He added that the institutions related to vaccination drives should prepare a roadmap and inform the government. The Minister assured that the government will provide all necessary assistance regarding vaccines.

Talking about possibilities in medicine, Mr Rupala said that along with innovation, the livestock health sector must pay attention to Unani and Ayurveda medicine options as these are economical. The Minister also highlighted the need to work on the common agenda of 'One Health', and appreciated the Prime Minister’s effort of the Mobile veterinary unit and massive vaccination drive for animal health. Mr. Rupala urged the state government officials to work on the state-centric problems of Animal health. The one-day conclave is based on shaping the animal health sector with innovative vaccines and precision diagnostics.

10 PM Modi inaugurates Kashi Tamil Sangamam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday (December 17) inaugurated the Kashi Tamil Sangamam at Namo Ghat, Varanasi. First held last year, the Kashi Tamil Sangamam seeks to celebrate North and South India’s historical and civilisational connections.

“Coming from Tamil Nadu to Kashi means coming from one home of Mahadev to His other home. Coming from Tamil Nadu to Kashi means coming from the place of Madurai Meenakshi to Kashi Vishalakshi’s place,” PM Modi said in his speech during the inauguration.
