1 Health Ministry Launches MyCGHS App For IOS Devices

Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Apurva Chandra today launched the myCGHS app for the iOS ecosystem of devices in New Delhi. The app is designed to enhance access to Electronic Health Records, information, and resources for Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) beneficiaries. The App was already available for the Android system. Talking to reporters, Mr Chandra said that the myCGHS app facilitates a wide range of services, including booking and cancellation of online appointments, accessing lab reports from CGHS labs, checking medicine history, checking medical reimbursement claim status, accessing referral details, locating nearby wellness centres and empanelled hospitals among others.

About the concerns expressed on the issue linking ABHA Id with CHGS Cards, the Union Health Secretary also clarified that there is no question of discontinuation of the CGHS scheme. He said, ABHA Ayushman Bharat Health Account- ABHA is the national digital identity for health which is part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. He said, that more than 55 crore ABHA Cards have been created.

2 PFC pays Rs 2,033 crore interim dividend to Govt for FY24

State-owned PFC on Wednesday said it has paid a total dividend of ₹2,033 crore to the government for the financial year 2023-24.

The company has paid the dividend in three instalments of Rs 554 crore, Rs 832 crore and Rs 647 crore, it said in a statement.

"PFC pays the highest-ever interim dividend of ₹2,033 crore to the Government of India for the FY24. The interim dividend RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) intimation advice was presented to RK Singh, Minister Power, New & Renewable Energy...by CMD Parminder Chopra," it noted.

3 World's Oldest Man, Juan Vicente Perez Mora From Venezuela Dies At 114

Venezuelan Juan Vicente Perez Mora, certified in 2022 by Guinness World Records as the oldest man in the world, died on Tuesday at the age of 114, officials and relatives said.

“Juan Vicente Perez Mora has transcended into eternity at 114 years of age,” Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on social media platform X.

Perez was officially confirmed as the oldest man alive on February 4, 2022, when he was 112 years and 253 days old, according to Guinness. A father of 11, as of 2022 he had 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. The farmer known as Tio Vicente was born in the town of El Cobre, in the Andean state of Tachira on May 27, 1909, and was the ninth of 10 children.

4 Governor R.N. Ravi inaugurates Param Vir Chakra garden

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi inaugurated Param Vir Chakra garden and Aikyam exhibition in the Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir in Tambaram on Saturday.

He was accompanied by Lt. Gen. Karanbir Singh Brar, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), General Officer Commanding (Dakshin Bharat area) and chairman of Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Trust V.Shankar.

The garden, that displayed the history with statues of the 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees, was unveiled in the presence of Sub Major and Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav, PVC, Sub Major Sanjay Kumar, PVC, and kin of late Major R.Parameswaran, PVC along with several personnel of the Armed Forces.

5 Korean Fusion Reactor 'Artificial Sun' Sets Record For Sustaining Plasma At 100 Million Degree Celsius

South Korean scientists have set a new world record using the Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) device, an "artificial Sun" nuclear fusion reactor. According to CNN, The team generated plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius for 48 seconds during tests between December 2023 and February 2024. This temperature is seven times that of the Sun's core, which is 15 million degrees Celsius.

The facility's previous record, set in 2021, was just 30 seconds. "Despite being the first experiment run in the environment of the new tungsten diverters, thorough hardware testing and campaign preparation enabled us to achieve results surpassing those of previous KSTAR records in a short period," Si-Woo Yoon, director of the KSTAR Research Center, explained in a statement.

Popular Tamil actor and comedian Visweswara Rao breathed his last on April 2. The noted artist was battling cancer and was undergoing treatment for years. The actor is known for his role as Manju’s father in the Tamil film ‘Pithamagan’ which has been written and directed by Bala. This Suriya starrer went on to become a box office success and it bagged critical acclaim and multiple awards, such as the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, Filmfare Awards South, and the National Film Awards to name a few. The actor is also known for playing a role in R Madhavan’s ‘Evano Oruvan’ where he acted as the annoying shop owner.

9 India’s Oldest Solar Observatory celebrates 125 years

The iconic Kodaikanal Solar Observatory (KSO), one of India’s oldest solar observatories in the world celebrated its 125th anniversary on 1st April, a PIB press release stated.

A.S. Kiran Kumar, former Chairman of ISRO and Chairperson of the Governing Council of IIA then unveiled the KSO 125 logo for the anniversary celebrations along with a booklet detailing the history and the research highlights of the Observatory.

10 Indian Pollution Control Vessel Samudra Paheredar makes a port call in Vietnam

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Pollution Control Vessel Samudra Paheredar with an integral helicopter, made a port call at Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, on Tuesday as part of its ongoing overseas deployment to Association of South-east Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

Prior to Ho Chi Minh, the vessel had visited Manila, Philippines to demonstrate diplomatic maritime engagements in the ASEAN region.

During the three-day visit, the crew will engage in professional interactions focussing on marine pollution response, maritime search and rescue, and maritime law enforcement.
